Square Enix’s legendary care and attention to detail with respect to its much esteemed Final Fantasy franchise are once again the cause of controversy amongst fans – this time because of the level of quality evident in their new figure line.
The “Trading Arts Mini” figures go on sale in December from the official Square Enix store and elsewhere:
Needless to say, coming so soon after the announcement that she is to star in yet another Final Fantasy XIII title, there is now a certain sense of foreboding present amongst those fans for whom these figures do represent the height of cuteness…

Ugh, I hate how hideous these are.
I really wish Squenix would stop making their own toys. They should stick to statues; they're better at it. Let other companies like Max Factory, GoodSmile, and Alter make figures of their characters. Play-Arts have always been abysmal, and these new mini figures are ugly as sin. I can tell just by looking at them that they would break easily.

Totally agree. Play Arts is complete crap. If they want to make a cute superdeformed line of character goods, they should just license their franchises to Good Smile Company and have them crank out a Final Fantasy Nendoroid series. Think of it: skilled sculpters, a built-in audience that is already watching for new product releases, and tons of interchangeable parts, props, and accessories from other Nendoroids. It seems like a no-brainer to me. WAY more profit potential than this shovelware from Play Arts.
I just wish they'd stop trying to force Lightning and FF13 on us like they've been doing for the past couple of years. The game is terrible and no one is asking for all these sequels and what have you.
Just do a full remake of FF7, instead of just re-releasing it in its old 1997 format. It's all the fans want right now. It's like Sqeenix hate money or something.
The problem being that if they do that and make a lot of money, they'll make nothing but remakes of games no one cares about for years.
I'm sure I'll be downvoted by fanboys of FFVII, but speak for yourself. A remake of that is the last thing I want. I see the game for what it is: a great addition to the FF franchise and NOT the best game ever or any crap like that.
Just because it was many peoples first FF game they have to drool over it. I'd much rather see them make new games not related to FFXIII (except for maybe Versus though not like it is ever going to come out.)
I could care less, but a FFVII remake would finally make them all shut up, then we'll just have to sit through the ones that gripe about how gay it was, but eventually it'll be done with, everyone would win with a remake, except SquareEnix, who will lose everything and be sold to NewGrounds, who will use final fantasy characters and likenesses to make a Castle Crashers sequal/flash porn game.

This didn't happen. At all. Most fans liked FF7 initially only to hate it way later for many number of reasons. Even FFX was loved by most despite it being so different than the previous games. It wasn't until FFX-2(and AC plus spin-offs and remakes) when FF actually started to be hated by fans and non-fans, with FFXI being online, FFXII being "too different", FFXIV being a huge failure, and we all know what happened with FFXIII. SE has basically divided the fanbase up by giving too many facelift to the series.

I see what you're trying to do, but your attributing to the wrong situation. When the Final Fantasy VII previews came out everyone's reaction was "this looks pretty cool", and this continued for most of its life even among the Final Fantasy 3 fanbase. There was little to no negativity from people who still wanted to stick with their SNES/Genesis and didn't want to buy a Playstation, but that is always to be expected and had nothing to do with the game's content.
The jaded misery of internet whining didn't actually take route until around the time of Final Fantasy VIII. Even GameFAQs was a bastion of rationality up until then. Prior to that everyone was very eager to move forward as the jumps from Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy 2 (IV) and then again to Final Fantasy 3 (VI) were incredible, and faith in Squaresoft's ability to deliver quality was almost religious (and largely well deserved).
You're an idiot. FF13 is a genuinely bad game / entry for the franchise. People as a whole, hate it and Squeenix seem intent on forcing it on us in a desperate attempt to make us like it so their time developing this garbage hasn't gone to waste.
13 is the only FF game I really, really dislike from all of the numbered FF titles. It's not FF, it feels slap-dash and lack luster as well as being a corrirdoor simulator.

Actually FFVI characters didn't even have heads that big. Hell, even FFV and all games before it, where the overworld character sprites were limited to like a single 16x16 block of pixels, at least had bodies that looked like they could support the big heads they had.
These figures, not so much. That in combination with the weird pointy chins for a chibi, just makes them nightmare fuel. Looks like some teenagers first attempt at chibi drawings.
