Chinese Antibiotics “Made From Sewage”

Chinese are aghast at reports that pharmaceutical companies have been making antibiotics out of cooking oil made from sewage, the cost of clean (and legal) oil having apparently proven an intolerable drain on their profits, whatever its possible effects on the health of their customers.
The oil has reportedly been finding its way into the antibiotics production process because it is cheaper than the massive expense of using regular soy bean oil.
Whether the antibiotics resulting from the more economical sewage production process pose demonstrable health risks is not clear, although the sewage-strained cooking oil is already regarded as being highly contaminated and unfit for human consumption.
Authorities claim they are investigating the extent of the problem, although given their success in stamping out the supposedly illegal cooking oil industry few are likely to be reassured.
The “sewage” or “gutter” cooking oil, made by reclaiming oil from sewage and kitchen waste, has itself been the subject of scandals for years.
Despite it being illegal and the subject of repeated crackdowns and widespread public disgust, such “recycled” oil still remains in common circulation throughout China – with the authorities apparently unable or unwilling to stamp out its manufacture, and Chinese entrepreneurs only too willing to continue the ghastly practice.

Calling China communist is funny. Sort of like how North Korea is "democratic." China is ruled by an authoritarian government, and split into many social strata from peasants to oligarchs to the lordly "party officials." None of which are "communist" ideals. If it were possible to run it as a communist state, there would be a barebones government mainly ensuring that people with excess wealth contribute to those in need and no one goes without.

Well at the very least "Made in China" stands for something. It stands unreliable, low quality, dangerous and most likely disgusting garbage thrown together in a few minutes.
Yeah nothing more unreliable than a Maid in China microwave. Killed two of those pieces of shit in a 4-5 year period. Ended up finding an old as dirt Made in America microwave at a yard sale and works like a champ.

It seems they don't realize from whatever chemicals that contaminate that of would explain the explosions.
The more important thing even YOU don't seem to realize is that antibiotics can actually bring about superbugs which are immune to the same antibiotics designed to fight it when abused.
Syphillis and gonorrhea are becoming more difficult to treat now than it was just 30 years ago. If abuse continues, they'll be about as incurable as AIDS.
On the plus side, if you can drink it and not die, then it's probably killed any nasties within you

Are people still honestly surprised by a country with virtually no regulation on labor or the means of production producing food and goods of all kinds from appalling, harmful, or fatal substances? This should be no surprise at all. It's not too different from the US from the Reconstruction through WWI.
Ah, the wonders of globalization. People demand lower prices, and the only way to get them that low is to produce in a country where the laborers are practically slaves and the products are made from or contain stuff that could kill you. Potential death is a fair trade for Everyday Low Prices!

US hospitals are importing medicine and equipment from China, among other places, as part of cost cutting measures.

I think I understand their logic. I mean China still has the largest population of any country in the world, right? If there are still 1.3 billion people in China alone out of approximately 7 billion in the entire world, then clearly their standards can't be seriously lethal no matter how gross they are, right?
