Reinforced glass panels are amongst the latest China quality manufactures to begin mysteriously exploding, in this case dropping the unfortunates who walking over it into the depths below.
The reinforced glass panelling was being used to pave a section of street in Sichuan province.
Two men walking over the glass fell 5m into the car park below when one of the sections “exploded.”
Journalists found many other cracks in the glass walkways nearby, suggesting the problem was not limited to the one panel.
The quality of the “reinforced” glass used has immediately called into question the wisdom of using a certain much trumpeted elevated cliff walkway elsewhere in China:

Is there anything in China that DOES NOT explode?
Their birth rates.
*ba dum tsh*
Thank you, I'll be here all weekend.
Birthday sex?
China's population is estimated at 1,343,239,923. United States is estimated at 313,847,465. If anything, I think their birthrates were the first to explode.
Anon, not really. It took a really long time for them to reach those numbers and now their population is overaging.
In fact their population number is about to implode. But hey that also counts, doesn't it?
With those explosion and vehicular accident with any luck their billion population will decrease because their existence is pretty damn annoying!
Supposedly they are working on a feature that things only explode when used by old people.
bombs and dynamite
The only thing that doesn't explode in China are the weapons systems such as bombs in their "armed forces".
exploding babies? dont think thats happened yet.
Proved, everything made in chine explode
you french? Cause i'm.
Ah, grammar... I believe that you are french.
China, the only country to hasten the energy death of the universe...
doesnt look like a explosion to me.
more like glass breaking.
They probably thought it exploded because of the sound of glass breaking?
I don't think explosion was anywhere in the original article.
Artefact just knows China + Explosion = page views lol.
I hope China will explode soon.
Shit. My clothes are made in China and I have not exploded yet
Atleast some manufactures warn you.

LOL that cannot be real.
LOL
True story.
Explode? No, spontaneous combust most likely.
Yet. The important word is 'yet'.
Just make sure your underwear are not from china, you probably don,t care if you die but you will care if your junk explode and you don't die.
You can break glass, but you can't destroy china.
I hope not, coz I still got family and frieds that live in there. I just hope the Chinese communists explode.
I'm wondering who's bright idea it was to put a glass walkway on the side of a cliff.
To me, it says "Don't do it!", on several levels.
Well actually tempered glass is quite resistant, and it's used for view-thru floors in attractions like the one over the Grand Canyon, some towers and some bridges. There are even videos of cars being dropped on inch thick sheets of tempered glass, or steel balls thrown at it without breaking.
The problem is that it needs a certain manufacture and treatment process to get a satisfactory product.
And like always the China quality standards can make any safe product dangerous.
Upps, typed the wrong one, it's safety glass, which is tempered glass laminated with a plastic film layer.
I understand that. The problem I have is with using it as a walkway on the side of a cliff where falling rocks could damage the integrity of the glass which could, eventually, lead to catastrophic failure.
Not to mention that most people would not be comfortable walking on such a surface.
and that's why china should never expand, they'll just turn everything into an explosion.
And America is better?
America had nuked itself over 1000 times!

michael bay will probably do a movie about china soon
I think he already did, does Transformers 2 count?
Because the special effects are free?
After a recent visit to China, it should be a remake of George Orwell's 1984.
- Want info on the current party or party chairman? Nope. Not available and by the way, why are you asking?
- Want to know about the 25 million people Chairman Mao Zedong killed? Nope. Never happened. You're just spouting Western propaganda. (I was told this at a Chinese history museum no less! He who controls the present, controls the past indeed.)
- People who lived through Mao's era and watched friends and family be executed sing his praises as "Der Glorious Leader."
Why the hell would you ever use glass as a building material, for something to walk on...
Well the Grand Canyon Skywalk it has a glass floor and it hasn't exploded dropping people to their dead yet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_Skywalk
Also many towers and building with observatories got the same kind of glass floors.
So definitely China is doing something wrong again.
It is chinese quality after all.
this is very unnerving...
China quality.
That's scary...
China - where all of your life fears come true.
I see their culture is alive and kicking...
Industrial grade tempered glass can be amazingly strong, even substantially stronger than traditional building materials. The inherent strength of this glass is also it's weakness. While possessing amazing impact resistance and durability from the sides (flat parts), even the slightest hit or crack at an edge (the ends) will cause it to shatter spectacularly.
When used as transparent walkways the edges have to be completely free of contaminants such as pebbles and debris, then sealed in a way to prevent the edges from from striking any other surface during vibration, shifting or quakes.
I, suspect the glass wasn't substandard, but more likely installed by a low bid contractor who did not understand the properties of the materials they were working with.
If you look the the pictures of the cliff skywalk, you can see that each glass sections is sealed at the edges.
The concrete sidewalk appears poorly maintained.
Thats what happens when you have workers getting paid 10 cents an hour doing construction work. Doesn't matter how good the materials are if the people installing it don't give a shit about they're doing.
