Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie Announced

Metal Gear Solid is the latest franchise to be given over to Hollywood’s tender mercies, with fans of the series left wondering whether the movie will follow in the glorious footsteps of Hollywood’s past video game adaptations, or the even more esteemed path of its many adaptations of popular Japanese entertainment franchises.
According to reports, as part of its glorious 25th anniversary the Metal Gear franchise will be getting a live action Hollywood movie adaptation produced by both Columbia Pictures and Sony.
Details of casting and which parts of the sprawling franchise will be first in line have yet to be announced.
Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima explains that he had been searching for years for a suitable production team to create a fitting movie adaptation, but with the availability of Avi Arad to oversee things and his reputed success at adapting American comic book classics (or Marvel comics at any rate) he had confidence he would do Snake justice as well.
Arad for his part pledges “not to do anything bad to the Metal Gear Kojima created” and promises “to make a wonderful movie in the spirit of the original,” doubtless dispelling the doubts of all but the most pessimistic of naysayers.
However, whilst few doubt Kojima’s competence or the power of the Metal Gear franchise, equally few will be able to forget Hollywood’s record at producing adaptations of both video games and beloved Japanese entertainment franchises…

There's already an MGS movie, it's called Escape from N.Y and Escape from L.A. Even has the original "Snake" in it.
This. Escape from New York was a huge influence on MGS, and Snake Plisken was Hideo's basis for Solid Snake.
So, an American film based on a Japanese video game inspired by an American film. It's doable.

I dun think it would make a good movie anyway. Metal Gear series were great games and I enjoyed them quite a lot. But at the end of the day I still have to admit the fact it's plot is 80's B rated action flick at best.
80's B rated flicks didn't have the twists of MGS, especially the first game's.
Hollyweird has screwed-up so many adaptations that they now qualify as serial rapists.

Sigh if you ask my own humble opinion david hayter cant be replaced with just any actor.

Why does everyone automatically assume this is going to be bad? This has every reason to be good.
Metal Gear is mostly cutscenes, anyway, so you can just have more cinematic scenes in place of gameplay.
I got an idea that will make this work: Have David Hayter write the screenplay. Hayter is a writer, he loves the franchise. He did the screenplay to Watchmen, and, ending aside, it was a very faithful adaptation. All they need to do is make it like a "Stale Beer Type" spy movie.
And besides, assuming it's gonna be bad assumes that people can't change over time. More and more, Hollywood directors are becoming more tolerant of Japanese franchises. I know we all want this to be Japanese, but can we at least SEE it before we decry it?
They already made a Metal Gear Solid movie. It's called MGS4. But seriously though, don't think this is the best of ideas. MGS can get needlessly convoluted in places. Not exactly movie material, in my opinion. But Hollywood isn't a democracy so any complaints or reservations we have would go ignored.
...why can video game based movies be animated? Why do they always have to be live action? Because if its animated it'll cost more money??!! I dont give a single fuck, make it animated damn it! Because in my opnion, video-game/anime based movies should be animated because it will always come out right and please the fans this way. If was a director, and i was directing a movie based on a video game/anime, I would make it animated, I dont care how much it costs. I'll make it happen and please the fans.
I'll try to explain as nice as possible.
In the 1960s, US cartoon writers found that their shows were terrible. They proposed an alternate method of getting views: market them to children. After all, they wouldn't notice or care about any of the numerous problems.
Somehow, this completely mutated into "Animation is strictly a kids' medium." Animated movies tend to be PG, while live action movies tend to be more PG-13 or R. When was the last time an R-Rated cartoon was made? No, literally the last time it was made?
Doctor: "Sir?"
Kojima: "What is it doctor? What did you find?"
Doctor: "Your show sir...has been diagnosed with
Americanitis...and it's terminal..."
Kojima: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
I didn't notice a lot of overt Japanese culture in MGS anyway. If it were terminal, it would've been paired with some other kind of disease, most likely Complicated Plot Syndrome.
It'll probably be a good movie, people just need to quit judging movies based on external factors and let a movie stand on its own two feet.

Me I'm not a fan of the franchise at all but no one deserves to be Hollywood's cow bitch.
And who knows, if fans are lucky the movie might get stuck on pre production and never be made.
I think that provided Kojima gets to maintain some level of QC over the script/direction, things should turn out okay... maybe... I hope?
They've got to have Cate Blanchett as The Boss. Sure that's MGS3 and this is MGS, but hopefully they'll have a flashback or something as an excuse. She's perfect for it in every way.
