Haruhi is as close to the mainstream/non-mainstream border as you get in anime, and K-ON is not far behind. Neither have any elements that would shock a non-anime fan. No pantyshots, soft-H, ero, nothing. I don't even get why these two are on the list.
Then again, K-ON seems to appear on virtually every anime ranking Sankaku posts anyway. We get it already, some people don't like it. In other news, fire is still hot and the Earth follows a twenty-four hour rotation cycle. Can we move on with our lives now?

I believe so. If a somewhat anime familiar person saw you watching K-On or haruhi, it wouldn't be so bad, but someone who isn't familiar with anime saw you watching a moe show that looks like it is orientated towards little girls, then it may cause concerns.
