A boy has been arrested for using a hammer to attempt to dash out the brains of the headteacher who oversaw fatal bullying and subsequent cover-up at his Shiga school, in a rare case of violent vigilante action.
The 19-year-old Saitama prefecture student travelled all the way to the Shiga prefecture school at the centre of the recent suicide bullying scandal.
Once there he located the 65-year-old principal implicated in the scandal at his office, and proceeded to attempt to beat him to death with a hammer.
The principal suffered a minor head wound from a hammer blow before the boy was subdued by other staff and handed over to police.
He has been charged with attempted murder, a charge he freely admits:
“He tried to cover up the truth about the bullying, I could never forgive this. I thought I’d try to kill him.”
Ironically enough, as a 19-year-old he will likely only be tried as a juvenile and so will probably suffer the same kind of lenient treatment as the boys responsible for hounding their schoolboy victim to his death.
Acts of vigilantism are practically unheard of in Japan (or at least those involving physical violence – anonymous campaigns of harassment are all too common), and the worst the school previously suffered was minor property damage and fake bomb threats, making attempted murder of the teachers responsible an unusually abrupt escalation.
Although some mild disapproval over the attack is evident online, many would clearly like to see the teachers get a taste of their own medicine and so have gleefully been turning the school’s own excuses back on it:
“They were just messing around!”
“An arrest is taking things too far for this sort of rough play.”
“They were just playing at pro-wrestling.”
“I believe this principal had certain family problems.”
“He’s just staging this to attract attention.”
“Whether there was an attack will need to be established through a questionnaire.”
“It is not clear that there was any connection between his wounds and this assault.”
“His attacker is a youth so we must consider his human rights.”
“Who’ll take responsibility if his assailant commits suicide?”
“I expect the principal did not expect to encounter bullying at this time of life. Perhaps he’ll know what it’s like now.”
“Bully goes on continuously day after day for months – there’s no way a single attack would make him understand.”

Boy used HAMMER BLOW!
It's not very effective.
I wonder if the Police merely told the Principal “it’d be best for you to forget about this as soon as possible” and that “the offender is 19 so even if we did press charges not much is likely to happen,”
At last someone in japan has balls.
They should also attempt to have the principal go through "voluntary resignation" in order to prevent anymore "regrettable" incidents that disrupts the school's daily life >.>
Dear God, the 2ch comments were fucking hilarious
I HOPE SO, damn that teacher deserves being hammered, I only regret not being able to see his damn face when he saw how people REALLY hate the dude. You don't see that JERK ISHIHARA did nothing like that, that's why everyone hates him.
minor injuries. a shame that is.
Next time go for the spine?
Except the principal has none.
First witty comment of the month, have some kudos.
Hammer to the groin would have been a critical hit.
Bravo.
Well... the kid was only 19, so maybe the target was taller. Kidney shot or kneecap swipe followed by head swing might have been more productive, in that case.
Could always aim for the lower back and make him a paraplegic.
All that matters though was that the boy was clearly intent on fucking murdering him.
I said this before in previous article about this, but I'll say it again.
Authorities need to do something about the perpetrators and their accomplices in this case if they do give a shit. Otherwise, common folks will take matters into their own hands.
Or hey, I don't know. Maybe we need to wake up one morning and see a headline in newspaper saying 'BULLIES' ENTIRE FAMILY DECAPITATED BY RAGING MOBS' to make them give a shit?
They were playing "construction worker"
its unfortunate he couldnt complete his good deed before going to jail
Looks like he failed his mission if he was "subdued by other staff". I assume he just charged in with the hammer while in full view of everyone and managed to get one swing at him before being jumped on by all of them. What he SHOULD have done was to 1st acquire the uniform of the school and ask that teacher for help with homework or something in a classroom after school. After he sits down, chat for a while before asking to go the toilet or getting a drink and THEN go for the kill while he is still sitting down.
He was 19 years old. Do you think you could fool a teacher who's seen thousands of students bellow his age?

And idiots. Lots and lots of idiots.
The real victim here is the 19 year old who had to suffer all these media attention for be a hero. If they didn't get involved, this would be nothing at all!
Why did they have to get the police involved now of all times?
“The media are just stirring things up too much.
Nobody even recognises the suicide caused this hammering in any case, so the reporting is all wrong.”
I just love the reactions of people online
At least someone is attempting to clean up the mess.
At least there is some sense of justice left in a few japanese. Its not the best way, but if the police behave like total wimps...
If he had a degree, a better way would be to actually join the police and start acting from there.
Didn't you know police in Japan is just glorified yakuza? The system itself is rotten...and some young fella joining the police force wanting to be an ally of justice won't be able to change shit, and would soon find himself being merely a pawn who if not play along with orders from above or work with the system, he would simply be buried one way or the other.
Hah, the police can't do anything! They're in someone's pocket no matter where you go!
@Erranty
I stopped believing that any public institution will defend my right as a citizen and human being a long time ago.
The police in my city (which shall remain nameless, since I don't feel like talking down where I live) publicly announced that they won't investigate break-and-enters so there is no point for the public to call about it.
They are known for using heavy and, in several instances, fatal force on unarmed people who are irate and frustrated in public. And they are very effective at giving out traffic fines.
My personal experience with the police was in a traffic accident where I swerved into the ditch during winter. The police's first priority when getting there was to tow my car away and write me a ticket for speeding, despite not having any sign or evidence that I ever sped, and only asked if I was injured as an afterthought, when I began to call for a taxi.
And yes, this particular city is one of the most expensive in North America...
The police is like that in every country...
@04:37
You mean like when they unlawfully arrest and torture peaceful protesters in mobile torture facilities specifically set up for the occasion in advance (like during G8), or like when they infiltrate the ranks of peaceful protesters with disguised police as troublemakers in order to invent false charges against them (pretty much all the time)?
@03:49
German police always made a good impression on me.
making another mess?
sounds good to me
Sometimes, the only way to make a point is through shouting and some violence.

Too bad he failed at killing the principal.
They were just sparring. Nothing serious.
He most likely would have succeeded if he had a gun...
or a knife
Or what about a traditional Japanese double bladed scottish highlander sword?
Stab him in the neck with his own pen.
Chainsaws are just too mainstream.
@03:51
I see what you did there...
It was just some harmless roughhousing!
Let's hope he has nightmare and jump of a building in his sleepwalking, and died the same way as victim of the bully...
It's hammer time!
"can't tou... - oh hell, yes !" *bash*
Or perhaps a "Hammer Session"?
