A newly unveiled trailer for “Final Fantasy XIV: The Fate of Eorzea,” part of the FF14 relaunch (“A Realm Reborn”) for PS3 and PC, has actually managed to secure a positive reception, prompting a certain amount of rather optimistic speculation that Square Enix may have learned its lesson…
The trailer:
Online there is optimism tinged with scepticism (or possible scepticism tinged with optimism) – not least thanks to the presence of the classic game marketing shell game of switching game and pre-rendered graphics.

The CG cutscenes for Final Fantasy games ALWAYS look good. Without knowing the actual gameplay or the storytelling or the characters, we cannot say if this game may be a step into the right direction or just another load of sparkly poo
Shining shit and calling it gold. The Square Enix way.
if they shined the dead cow which is ff7, i'd call it gold.
I played it a while back not too long ago again and no its not a terrible RPG. I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.
uh FFVII was a great game when it came out, comparing an old game to new games is just not doing justice. The newer games should be better. The problem is when the new games suck compared to the old games, not the other way around.
Jesus, it's all about butthurt here, isn't it?
FF7 was an average JRPG. The story itself isn't that special, but you know what? I still had fun playing it.
So, just because someone else's opinion is different from yours doesn't mean you have to bash them or try to start an argument with them.
Who cares what other people think as long as you enjoyed it, right?
The original comment is really all there is to say about XIV; we'll have to wait (again) and see. SE seems to have a "too big to fail" model for XIV though, which is almost certainly doomed to failure.
Regarding VII, it was an excellent game. The late 90's hit that sweet spot of gaming as a whole. These days everything just feels like "content" and the actual games themselves aren't very engaging. The sense of discovery is gone.
no one gives a shit about ffvii. if you went back and played it, you'd realize it's a fucking terrible rpg.
Funny, I did just that this year. Just because something is dated doesn't mean it's bad. I would call it an EASY RPG, not a bad one.
You can badmouth Squenix for milking ancient history, but don't try to tarnish the name of a good game.
Why they can't just make a CG movies??? Like Final fantasy spirits within. They making a game with so much CG moments, that it's not hard to change all of it to the movie)))
Yup I agree, FF7 Advent Children was frickin amazing for the visuals.
It's kind of sad though, most people nowadays remember Cloud from Advent Children as Cloud, rather than Cloud from FF7.
It was purely fan service though, the story was shit.
spirits within was fucking terrible. you're smoking crack.
Maybe because Square almost went bankrupt after they made Spirits Within. Because it was not a good movie. Looked good though, at the time.
I was a bit disappointed that the trailer was once again just CG, but to be fair, those keeping track of this game's progress have been given promises that have been met.
http://www.xivpads.com/?E32012 shows a number of improvements and changes done in the game, along with some in game screenshots and concept art. Not sure if those screenshots have ever been posted on Sankaku before, but I guess they are the real reason people are getting hyped.
It's so obvious this game will be another pile of unholy trash that I'm not wasting my breath anymore.
Oh, the english dub in this trailer is FUCKING ATROCIOUS.
breath officially wasted.
I was just going to question how this really "secured a positive reception", there's absolutely 0 gameplay footage and no news about updates or anything.
Hehehe why don't they focus on the actual game-play?
CG's always look better than the game!
but that's just a CGI trailer!
Scruffy seconds this.
and i thought it was lord of the rings 4 trailer...
seriously, ff should go back to simple jrpg.
If people are actually fooled by shit like this then they should just take a scene from Godfather II and call it a FF trailer, it will represent the gameplay just as much.
square enix still hasnt learned its lesson if they had they would have just released an actual gameplay vid and no more cgi BS
Look at all that gameplay!
Square Enix trailers:
CGs and art = A+
Sound and Music = B+
Gameplay = what gameplay?
i think FF music is one of the best out there for sure
FF music is one of the best during Uematsu's time.
Nowadays, FF music are.. meh.
Uematsu actually scored most of FFXIV. Unfortunately, he's also sort of an overrated composer (not that he hasn't done some great work, but much of that was born from the limitations of early consoles). Also unfortunately, scoring a single-player RPG is vastly different from scoring an MMO... the sheer quantity of music it calls for well exceeds the capability of one overpaid composer. They would have done much better to hire a dozen low-totem composers.
...Final Fantasy XIV "Online"...
I stopped reading there.
They're making another online game? What?
They already made it. It was released. This is the re-release because the first one was a disastrous failure. Not a technical failure. The game worked. It just sucked.
'The game worked'?
It hasn't been a full year and people already forgot the crazy amount of lag caused by the absolutely stupid programming that requires every single player action to be validated by the server?
It hasn't been a full year? The game has been out for almost 2 years now lol
Well, it is still out-sourced; but yea, can they fix it? yes they can!
actually, the game was a technical failure. it was made on the crystal engine (ffxiii). which had severe limitations as far as what a mmo platform requires. on top of that, square-enix outsourced the programming to a chinese company. all of this was covered on sankaku and other sources.
so instead of throwing the entire project away, they've rehauled it. thank god too, because ffxiv 2.0 sounds really promising (because the new producer has decided to re-do the entire game with his own vision while keeping player input in mind).
The game worked yeah .. but only after they fixed all the crap that made it unplayable ...
This game was a failure from beginning to end .
Had no lags in beta. Managed to play for 30 minutes, then uninstalled.
To the "Hurr it's only CG": if you actually looked up the improvements they've been making to the game over these months and the changes to come, it's apparent that it'll be a "good"(quotation because some people just hate MMOS regardless of the quality) game if they meet even half the promise they've made. It'd be suicidal for a company to invest so much money into revamping a whole game, go as far as reshuffling the team in charge, and lie about the whole thing. But I do agree that Artefact should've included gameplay changes in the article instead of just the CG, though.
Uhm, complaining over and over about no gameplay, show how lazy you are, if you watch this video in youtube, there are plenty of gameplay videos on related, shezzz....
You can only polish a turd, it's still a turd Square
Nice movie. Now how does it play?
all FFs look good
They learned they suck at game making, so they switched to making movies?
Wait im confused... i played FF14 for like 2 months and quit.. will i be able to pass my character over to this or are they 2 whole different games??
If your character still exists on their servers then yes, your character will transfer over to FFXIV 2.0.
2012 and still promoting games with all cg.
They have been working on it for months, just put out a 10 minutes trailer packed with gameplay AND a brief glimpse at cut scenes and cg, for crying out loud. The nerves...Even Toki Towa did better.
only bad thing about this is the narrator's voice and that i didn't see a glimpse of any hot chicks....
So an admittedly great CG movie trailer is supposed to get me to buy and play a game who's biggest flaw was the actual gameplay...how, exactly?
These kind of CG cut-scenes and openings have always been a Square strength. They're good at them. Show me the money... or rather, show me the gameplay!
MMO Genre is a waste of money now if PVP is attached they just trying to steal your cash just to make you think and feel better then the other players in the Community that play with you.
A Gambling Addiction. With no real return.
Just don't buy their shit or the RMT Shit.
Starve and die playing Videogames.
I don't play games anymore, BOTS play them for me.
I just check on them, I don't even support the economy with what my BOT makes, I just NPC shit it finds like a Ongoing Science Experiment.
Single player games seem more fun to me, no drama, no bullshit, while I drink my Belvedere, Johnnie Walker Blue, Aneho Tequila's, and Gins... while Im snacking on a Carl's Jr Burger...
