hat's because that's all he knows how to write. He's saying it's dead and hoping his word is taken as gospel by other writers so much that they don't make any more to compete with the only source of income he has.
Tried of course, but he failed, his one trick pony is called Love Hina, nothing else he made has ever achieved that level of success, and yes I am including Negima, which was fine, but nowhere near LH's level.
Love Hina was good actually. And it was deeper and more interesting that most people who only watched the anime will realize. Negima was everything Love Hina was and more. Akematsu is truly over over with Harem at this point.
To be host however most harem shows become so because they include a male lead and make the girls fall for him. Remove the male lead and you fix the harem problem. If you need romanticism have the girls far for each other. Some series get this. Queens blade for instance. Most of the Highschool girlers like Yuru Yuri or A-Channel get this.
Fuck harem male leads.

I'd say on the same level as azumanga daioh, with less memorable characters, and the normal derpy protagonist.

Well, it mostly is. Harem genre can't live on it's own, it always needs a sub-genre like comdedy, or it has to be the sub-genre as well to work. The last harem anime i liked was Nagasarete Airantou. That's already a couple of years ago.

Too much Anime the only way to tell the difference between a male and female character is that one has breasts.
As someone who's read the light novels, I find it amusing that the ONE thing they've done right so far are the kissing scenes. Otherwise the adaptation is shit. And I'm not one of those people who require absolute faithfulness to the original material, some of my favourite adaptations have changed quite a lot. This one is just plain badly done. Well, there was no way cramming 5 novels into 12 or 13 episodes was gonna turn out well anyway. ┐(￣ー￣)┌ I recommend checking out the novels, they're 100x better and they're getting translated at Baka-Tsuki at a good speed currently.
The protag should just dump the blonde and screw the miko instead.
