The glorious history of live action Street Fighter adaptations appears set to become even more celebrated, with news that yet another live action adaptation is in the works – Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.
The announcement:
Astonishingly, Japanese Street Fighter fans seem unenthused:
“I guess we are expected to pretend the one with Van Damme never happened.”
“Amateurs?”
“What do you mean, it’s not a TV anime?”
“At least cast some Asians, please…”
“Seriously? Well, the live action version was pretty good…”
“The last one with Chun-Li was pretty shoddy though, it’ll probably just be like that.”
“Make sure you cast a hottie as Chun-Li guys.”
“So who will play Chun-Li!?”
“I don’t think she will even be in it…”
“If they did it properly it could be good, but this just sounds like a rip-off of Star Wars or something.”
“Looking at the quality of their fan-made stuff just makes all commercially produced Japanese movies look like total rubbish…”
“This is going to bomb horribly.”

Chinese actors incoming :?
There was already a Chinese Street Fighter movie, it is called Future Cops, it is on Youtube. It is more like a comedy movie.
Surely nothing can be as bad as the one with Jean Claude in it... right?
I might be wrong, it looks god awful already!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWmV4aGGisA
Never ask something like "what could be worse?" because there is always something worse, and don't call me Shirley.
the one with jean claude was soo bad that it was good, everything else was just pure shit
Someone should tell them that the people making this movie are actually responsable for one of those "fan-made stuff [that] just makes all commercially produced Japanese movies look like total rubbish..."
They basically saw one of those fan movies, and asked them to make an official one.
Starring Ryu, a blonde-haired high school american teenager who learned japanese karate to bone some hot chick in his class >.>
Apparently Raul Julia was a pretty respected actor before playing M.Bison. I had no idea, I just remember him in that movie and then dying.
He was king in the Adam's Family movies, I miss him.
yep loved The Addams Family.. good old days
Same here I loved those movies.
Yeah, it was a bad decision of him to accept the role. He did like to play the odd character sometimes, to great effect. He did such a fantastic Gomez in the Addams Family movies.
Seem to recall reading something about him accepting the role on the advice of his kids. That it just wasn't a role he could turn down.
And they were right, he pretty much stole the entire movie with his performance and put everyone else to shame.
"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. "
I miss his role as Gomez...I wish they would do another Addams Family movie with hime reprising his role...
That said, he was a damn good M.Bison even though his casting in that movie was poor...
But one can dream we can see another great performance by him...
*imagines Gomez Addams wearing M.Bison's clothes*
Source for the "But for me, it was Tuesday" trope was probably the best thing about the movie..
Forget about Van Damme, Raul Julia was awesome and that more than makes up for it.
Even the fan-made SF stuff was absolute garbage, so there's really no way in Hell that Hollywood could make something great out of this.
Hollywood = Fail
The Ryu in the Street Fighter: Legacy short film is played by the guy that played Jin in the Tekken movie.
Yes that same self indulgent gnome, the reason most folks are prepared for this movie to be bad.
I loved the first live action street fighter movie.
Not that I somehow put it past hollywood to ruin it though.
Okay this one really is pathetic
This is what happens when Hollywood studios think with $$$ in their eyes, they end up getting the license to a game/anime, and 9 times out of 10, it's totally different from the source.
I would like to apologize to fans in Japan for all this, most of us hate this just as much as you do.
Weaboo detected.
...I can't understand your logic.
It is pretty clear not sure how you missed it.
Jew detected!!
Don't apologize to Japan. Where's your honor?!
The producers even pronounce Ryu as "ree-yoo". This does not bode well.
This kind of crap is exactly why "Mystery Science Theater 3000" needs to be revived. I would love to hear Mike and the Bots mock Van-Damme's faux-merican accent.

Legacy was really cool, if they come up with something like it I think it's going to be great.
These guys have nothing to do with the Van Damme movie.
But the 1994 movie was sooooo bad that it was good. It was like a parody or something.
Ken and Ryu con artist?
Dee Jay and Zangief a comedy duo?
E. Honda Chun Li's camera man?
Scrawny Blanka?
M. Bison gravity boots?
That movie was hilarious!
The live action series is actually gonna be done by the guys that made this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2ZXSzaUIBQ which was actually not a total piece of shit and was pretty well done actually so i have high hopes.
Japanese don't see it that way,Japanese never heard of even seen the fan-film or bother to know who is making the TV Show.
Despite what 2ch leads you to believe, they really don't give a fuck about these movies.
well then i guess there is a net total of zero fucks given, since I can assure you that no one gives a fuck about 2chan and how many fucks they give.
I sure as hell don't give a fuck about the movie, no idea why japanese would, either.
Yeah..but they do give a fuck about Chun-Li being a hot Asian woman which we all want.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
that cheesy 90s street fighter movie was still 10x better than that chun li focused one.
also raul julia was awesome.
+100. Love the movie. I'm not sure why it was downvoted so much.
Raul Julia's character made the movie into a good action comedy. And a good action comedy is pretty rare. (Not a huge fan of Jacky Chan myself: some old movies were OK, new ones are pretty poor and overboard.)
Simple. It wasn't what Street Fighter is. ALL the characters were done wrong. I used to look at the movies as extentions of the games, books, comics, cartoons, etc. When they are done wrong, I would get confused to what's actually true in the stories.
Agreed. It may have been cheesy, but at least it was fun to watch.
It's all thanks to M.Bison. My goodness does he eat the scenery.
"Quick! Change the channel!"
Totally, I consider that movie one of the bests! In its time it was pure awesomeness and still to this day is decent.
Also, Raul Julia was awesome because he was Puerto Rican. RIP!
Died of a heart attack right after making this POS. Probably from shame and embarrassment. or maybe coke head Van Damme was giving him samples of blow.
Yep... the movie killed him.
Whatever good in the movie, it was him.
Now, we need a equal to Mario Bros.
BTW If you want to see Raul Julia in a decent movie watch "Romero" or "Moon Over Parador".
can't believe you omitted Adams Family
At least in the 90s they knew a video game translation rarely can be a serious movie and needs to be fun and campy.
Damn right it is. The Legend of Chun Li was an obvious cash in of the release of Street Fighter 4.
Ya it was total cheese but when it is on I can't help but watch it.
It really was just a whole lot of fun. It helped that no one but I think Van Damme to it at all seriously.
they just better add DAN THE MAN!
