Deus Ex is the latest videogame franchise to fall victim to a Hollywood movie adaptation, with Square Enix and CBS Films announcing it will be adapted into a film.
CBS Films says it will be based on or around the events of Human Revolution, and that it will actually involve Eidos in the production:
“As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience’s expectations by engineering incredible worlds.
No one knows ‘Human Revolution’ like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the ‘Deus Ex’ name.”
Roy Lee, producer of such masterpieces as “Lego: The Piece of Resistance,” and Adrian Askarieh, producer of the almost equally esteemed “Kane and Lynch” movie, have been announced as the producers of what is sure to be an exciting tour de force which be widely appreciated by fans of the game whilst making it more accessible to a mainstream audience.
The production schedule has so far not been made public.
Square Enix is gushing forth enthusiasm in spite of the universally dire history of Hollywood’s videogame adapted movies:
“As the millions of fans who have played the ‘Deus Ex’ games for more than a decade will tell you, these games catapult you into a universe that is stimulating, engaging and relevant.
We’re firm believers in building strong partnerships, and so we’re thrilled to be working with CBS Films on bringing the unique ‘Deus Ex’ experience to the bigscreen.”

Here is the thing that should give everyone who has ever been disappointed by a horrible video game based movie hope: Ewe Boll is not involved.
If he was, at least it might be so bad that it's funny.
brings Postal to mind...
Most funny part: he's actually Dr. Uwe Boll. He holds a PhD in Literature.
Liberal arts major. Enough said.
I never asked for this
None of us did...but we did nothing to stop it...
Yes we did, we avoided seeing many movie adaptations. Its our only way to send a message to these idiots.
you might not watch them, but someone did, that's what messes up our hard work of not watching them.
Look at what the fuck they did to Dragon Ball. They turned a legend into something that needs to be taken behind a shed and put out of its misery.
Blame the Germans and Uwe Boll movies... they're the retards who keep watching his shit.
I'll admit I'm an optimist though. Deus Ex at the very least has strong potential to be a good movie. Unfortunately it'll only work if it manages to feel like the atmosphere of Minority Report or something like that.
@ Anon 13:17
A good chunk of the sales and box office for Uwe Boll's movies were in Germany that made them at all successful. So something about them is resonating with them. If they weren't making sales they wouldn't be made, it's as simple as that. Someone keeps giving that cocksucker money, and from what I've read, it's the German audience.
No one in germany is fucking watching uwe boll hes not even popular here lol so dont talk out crap
Yeah, no one in Germany who isn't a geek does even know about Uwe Boll, and those who know him hate him usually.
i saw the picture and assumed it was going to be an anime film... i see the error of my ways now...
I'm Flagging CBS as KOS to all lovers of the Deus Ex world.
Kind of have to agree HouseLife, this game does have some potential to make a good movie, say unlike Mario Brothers or Dead or Alive.
@ House
I am German and I find this offensive D:
The German dude (who hates Uwe Boll movies)
I'm offensive and find this German.
What a shame..
OH MY GOD JC, A BOMB!!
I chose the nano cloud ending. Who knew it would take so little effort to bring about world peace, an end to world hunger, and love to all mankind?
your a fucking retard i chose to be crushed by water :P figured he would be able to breath underwater.
.. it was a good game. What a rotten way to ruin the franchise
Yeah, RIP.
And you can't do anything to stop it, how sad.
hollywood producers did
NO ONE CARES DICK SHIT!
lol wut?
Go die in the hole you dug for yourselves, Square Enix.
as "good" as square is at "engineering incredible worlds," they better find a better script writer. because that's what killed their last 2 movies.
Just remember, Square, fancy graphics can come AFTER you work out all the other problems.
Choosing this game over KH3, they should.
Jason statham as jason namir and I'll watch it no matter how crap it is.
But it will probably be Keanu Reeves.
keanu stands a better chance of being adam jensen I'd say if the casting director actually played the game.
Statham is too short and muscular.
Reeves looks too kind. We need someone badass.
we could always get Troll Cruise to do it.
Keanu Reeves was suppost to play Spike off cowboy bebop.
What's funny is if you see his Bill and Ted hair, it works visually. He just needs to get that look back, but have his 'Neo' face. That may work.
I'm more for obscure actors. Watching a 34534634th movie with same actors cast over and over...
First movie ever to be shot entirely through a yellow filter?
Don't be ridiculous. They will add all the yellow in post-processing.
Actually that would be Avalon (2001)
That would be too true to the game for a movie, they will use a blue or green filter.
Hollywood, why are you so fucking terrible?
Universally dire?
Um. Okay.
The Resident Evils haven't been total shit (even if they're gone way off on their own tangent). Yes. There have been a ton of very bad video game movies. Not every movie has been 'dire' though. Given that we don't know who is making it, who is writing, directing or anything...
Wait at least for the preview to come out and see what you have, okay?
Not to mention the first Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat movies are generally remembered well. The Prince of Persia movie made a fair amount of money too.
Guess we have to invade and liberate the country of sauerkraut, beer and terrible cinema again.
Not again! >_< If such a movie would at least add something new to the universe or the story, THAT could be interesting! But no one really needs or wants yet another half-assed attempt to just retell an interactive story through a non-interactive medium. Never worked before, won't work this time either.
Dear publishers/developers, PLEASE find other ways to earn money than butchering your own IPs like this!
One of the most important part of the Deus Ex games are choices, kill or not kill, is it ok for humans to modify themselves, who to trust, ect.
Making a movie takes out the choices.
The only way to win this game is not to watch it. :P
