Deus Ex is the latest videogame franchise to fall victim to a Hollywood movie adaptation, with Square Enix and CBS Films announcing it will be adapted into a film.

CBS Films says it will be based on or around the events of Human Revolution, and that it will actually involve Eidos in the production:

“As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience’s expectations by engineering incredible worlds.

No one knows ‘Human Revolution’ like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the ‘Deus Ex’ name.”

Roy Lee, producer of such masterpieces as “Lego: The Piece of Resistance,” and Adrian Askarieh, producer of the almost equally esteemed “Kane and Lynch” movie, have been announced as the producers of what is sure to be an exciting tour de force which be widely appreciated by fans of the game whilst making it more accessible to a mainstream audience.

The production schedule has so far not been made public.

Square Enix is gushing forth enthusiasm in spite of the universally dire history of Hollywood’s videogame adapted movies:

“As the millions of fans who have played the ‘Deus Ex’ games for more than a decade will tell you, these games catapult you into a universe that is stimulating, engaging and relevant.

We’re firm believers in building strong partnerships, and so we’re thrilled to be working with CBS Films on bringing the unique ‘Deus Ex’ experience to the bigscreen.”
