Total Eclipse Total Ero-Suits Anime

Total Eclipse’s unpromising arrival seems to been a portent of things to come – its bevy of sexy maidens is all that is keeping it afloat in its first episode, as it appears nobody unfamiliar with its source eroge has a clue what is going on with its confusing Strike Witches meets mecha storyline.
The kind of questions being asked about its setting (and the answers garnered in response) are not proving very reassuring to hopeful viewers:
Why can’t men ride the mechs?
They can, but they all died in the war.
What are the enemies? Aliens?
Weird lifeforms which came from space.
Why are all the characters so old-fashioned?
That’s just the setting. Deal with it.
Is there only Japan left on the planet?
A few other countries may have survived.
Why do they have to wear those suits?

Understandably, with story and exposition on this level, hopes rest on it being a decent oppai anime, and indeed it does reasonably well in this regard:

What kind of answer do they expect?
Its obviously a design thing to make them ero, but they actually made some interesting explanations regarding the suit in the original game that actually makes some sense.
The suit is like a armor that have other functions related to de the body of the pilot, one of the is interact with the body and reduce the sense of shaking the mecha gives with wich step to avoid motion sickness, there other functions as well like medication and protection but i cant remember all of them.

but the gorget, combined to the "chin extension", looks designed to break their jaw :/.
Besides, i can't imagine the disconfort of piloting mechas, with such masses in free movement...

There is a reason like that in universe. Those suits will take huge shocks (the teacher proved it in the VN by hitting the main character with a 2x4 or some other blunt object). They also provide some sort of neuro interface with the mechs as well as projects the HUDs straight onto the person's retinas.
Is it about wearing suits, or how the suits are skin toned? I guess it would be more comfortable than sitting on a metal ass.

And if folks really want to know where are the guys?
a) First off the girls shown attend a girls only school, so of course there won't be any guys in their unit.
b) Males are more likely to be conscripted earlier. Glasses girl had a BF who got sent to Kyushu with his unit. He ended up getting eaten by the Bugs.
And as for the setting, alternate universe. Looks like the Tokugawa Shogunate didn't fall, so they ended up avoiding WW2, amongst other things.
Tech is a lot more advanced as well, they ended up going to the Moon in 1967 (actually had a war with the Bugs there), as opposed to the tentative steps by Armstrong and Aldrin in 1969.
There is another reason as well as to why most of the conscripts are women, in the game lore as I remember, they are alredy fighting for almost half a century, in the beggining the army os most nations were mostly men but as war progresses the casualty number just skyrocketed with about 60% of the world population lost.
Of course soldiers were the first ones to die and with the decline of world population the world nations were forced to conscript females the same way they did with males with military training since early age, tahts why the majority of new conscripts were females, because only recently they were given the same treatment as males when it comes to the military.
Considering some of the casualty numbers that I've seen tossed about, that does seem quite plausible.

To be fair the only ecchi parts in the first episode were the few minutes of ero suits, that's all. Beside that the rest seemed quite serious.

You know when anime was one of a kind (shounen, shoujo, seinen, gekiga), other genres like ecchi or hentai.

While the former spent on TV, others were sold on vhs.

LOL Piloting suit needed for defence of body and ergonomical function with vehicle - but we see suit that don't defend at all inner organs and have unpractical heavy modules on legs and arms - they will get in the way when piloting and slow down reaction time.
