The sheer directness of the approach Chinese police have taken to shaming their creepy toilet peepers has been winning some admirers overseas.

Realistically, from what I've seen/heard China has it's share of good and bad, like every one else. Unfortunately, from the West's general perspective (very general), we tend to only get a hold of the bad and very little of the good (irregardless of the percentage) .
It doesn't help too if your source for China news comes from a site intended for Anime,games, and all things fucking related to JAPAN.

I am a Chinese but I do not live in China. By knowing 3 languages, I used to live in part of the China but weren't really part of China. (I dont want to say where Im from but you get the idea...) Im currently living in NY and I can tell you guys that I hate Chinese communist so much that I can do anything to get rid of them form the country. However, I gotta admit the Chinese communist did contribute to the country in some ways, and there is no doubt it allows the economy to grow rapidly in recent decades. Yet, it does not justify the bad, corrupted and evil things they have done. People usually tell me to stfu by saying if it wasnt the Chinese communist, China wouldn't be as economy powerful as today. Yes, I agree, but money is not everything and one day the economy will shrink for sure once the bubble popped. If we do not use this chance to wake up, we will just go back to 1940 quickly after the economy shrink. It would be like a short dream and then go back to the shitty lives we used to live in. I hate to say that but at that time, I will probably tell them: see? I told you so.
That's qhat the media is all about these days, sadly. Always going for the bad stuff and not their good stuff, because it sells more.

The public shaming stuff went out of style back in the 18th and 19th centuries in the first world.
Even the form of justice was being done to the very late 19th century in a good chuck of first world countries.
Post WWI is when thing really started to become more "civilized".
Public shaming works quite well if it is in a small closed off community. i.e. one that everyone know everyone else. It does not scale too well when you are in a city.
