Police have dropped rape charges against a lolicon teacher who admitted having his way with a 12-year-old schoolgirl in the back of his car, and have declined to explain why.
The 26-year-old Sendai middle-school teacher was arrested for the attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl from another school, whom he had met online using an unnamed social networking service, and then arranged to meet up with in the back of his car.
For reasons they declined to clarify police dropped the charges against him, despite him admitting them and helpfully telling them “I was interested in girls of elementary school age.”
However, police searches revealed he had induced her to send nude pictures of herself to his phone, which he transferred to his PC, so police did later charge him with “manufacturing” child pornography, which he also admitted.
The incident came to light after the girl’s mother became suspicious and noticed her daughter had been exchanging mails with him.
What actions, if any, the school took in response to all this are not clear.
Police have not been forthcoming about the circumstances of him meeting the girl, but one possible scenario is that she was consensually engaged in prostitution, and that as a 12-year-old police may have been forced to charge him with statutory rape, which for whatever reasons they declined to do.
The other more widely favoured possibility is simply that he was a teacher and therefore practically immune to prosecution…

Don't put words in people's mouths. They mean kids don't have the experience to effectively weigh their options before performing something like prostitution.
Just because these kids find it an effective way to buy their wanted goods, just as any criminal in a tight bind decides to do so, doesn't mean anyone (in this case the client) can jump on it with just a slap on the wrist. You want to put aside morals and talk law, but using this case as an example, the law will find whatever evidence it can to make charges based on its own morals.

I imagine their case is not as strong as you imagine. If the guy later claims he didn't confess anything and they only have verbal confessions, it's going to be pretty hard to convict him, especially if the girl refuses to testify against him.

Nude photos are not evidence of them actually having sex unless, you know, the police have photos of them doing it. Strong suspicions are not enough to convict people.
If the police officers in question hate pedos with burning passion like most normal people, their testimony is just as suspicious as the accused's. It's not unprecedented that "upright citizens" have tried to take justice in their hands by lying on the stand to get the "bad guy" convicted. Go look around the Innocence Project's database if you want examples.

As to nude photos, I think they would fall into the category of 'circumstantial evidence'.
If such nude pics of the two of them exist and were presented in evidence, they would make it more likely he would be convicted.
