Nadia fans have been decrying NHK’s decision to censor its rerun of the classic show’s much prized 12th episode by airbrushing out the African princess’s nipples.
The “HD remaster” vs the original – excessively observant fans have pointed out that NHK even butchered its own hackjob, as her left nipple is still visible in the enlightened 21st century edition:

Actually, when I was a kid, I had a book that showed genitals to explain what genders were. Somehow I think I survived. I get the feeling that almost 100% of the human population gets by just fine, even though they have sex organs and secondary sexual characteristics (I downgrade from 100% because there are some out there who don't... perhaps .0001% or somesuch... kinda freakish if you asked me).

Its non-sexual nudity, why did they bother? I could see someone censoring HS DxD, or a bunch of other ones that came out recently and fill time with too much pointless nudity, but this actually served a purpose.

It's NHK, the Japanese equivalent to the US's PBS (Public Broadcast System). PBS shows folk singing, documentaries about the American Civil War and such. I'd be surprised if they didn't censor every little thing.
The also have trips to Africa on PBS Travel where they don't censor the boobs of the natives.

I just checked that scene on my copy of the show and, wow, seriously, if you didn't know about that nipple and weren't LOOKING for it, you'd never notice at all, it goes by so fast.
Doesn't surprise me. Nadia's whole history is a tragedy of executive meddling. It wasn't supposed to be longer than 26 episodes, but the network demanded more because the initial episodes had proved so popular.
I understand why. Up until around episode 8, Nadia is some of the best anime I've ever seen. If only they had left it alone.
However, despite Anno's objections, they were forced to stretch it out with the godawful and hideously badly animated "Nadia's Island" filler arc, and production actually had to be halted for a time because the budget ran dry. It ruined the show as a whole, and sent Anno into a depression - out of which was born, ironically, Evangelion.

Im surprised to hear about news of Nadia. I loved that anime. It was like Eureka 7 except there wasn't any mecha and the main guy was way more resourceful and likable than Renton.

Nadia is by far the stupidest character in anime history as far as I'm concerned. If you see this anime then you'll know what I'm talking about especially considering as the story progresses she keeps taking her stupidity to a new level that goes beyond any person's common sense.
As Japan continues to try and outdo the US in uber-conservative prudishness, I can only hope that I escape to Canada before it goes completely to shit.

Yeah seriously. I found out about Nadia (and Gainax) BECAUSE Eva was so popular and I wanted to see what else the studio had done.
I'm convinced they have a natural gas leak in their writers' studio they refuse to fix because it's the source of their creative inspiration.

Having said that, I don't remember if I watched this as a fansub or ADV's release, or even if it was VHS or not. But I'm sure I would have remembered Nadia's nipples regardless.
