Final Fantasy fans desperately hoping for a long-awaited remake of Final Fantasy VII have been brutally disappointed to learn that leaked news of a PC version points only to a straight port, without any significant enhancements, prompting many to wonder just what Square Enix is thinking…
The leaked text, apparently accidentally made public on and then swiftly removed, refers to a supposed Steam edition:

Square Enix for its part has declined to comment on the matter, although a variety of evidence suggests it is reasonably credible.
As the game is already the subject of a great deal of PC-based modding and emulation action (shown), a simple port of ancient classic with the addition of trophies and cheats may not be quite the cash-cow Square Enix hopes for – although amongst some fans there is the suspicion that Square Enix is currently in no condition to do a remake justice in any case.

I have the Original Final Fantasy VII for PC with the triangular box it originally came in. So guess really the only port is porting to Steam Engine.

The news sounded to me like the writer didn't know there already exists a port. Well, this is only a rerelase for steam. Happens with many old games these days...
It did work horribly on PCs, so I hope they improve that aspect too.

i don't remember having any problems with it, but then again, it's been a few years since i played it...
Some of the cutscenes were a mix of movies and rendered graphics, and on my computer they were often out of sync, and some of the movies played upside-down.
So they just added some of the worse aspects of PC gaming like achievements to it.
Just hurry the fuck up and release Final Fantasy Versus XIII already you stupid motherfuckers!!!

Face it, Versus became FF13-2. Squareenix just renamed the final product to avoid more asspained fanboy death threats after they vehemently claimed it was still 'Playstation exclusive'. Search your heart, you know it to be true.

Square Enix announced that what was once "XIIIV", will now simply be "XV". Rather than being a spin-off, Versus is now the true-blue Final Fantasy 15.

That Unreal Engine port was a miserable FPS of the intro. That's not a port.
They wantet just to redo the intro usin Unreal Engine and they have done this really bad . Dont expect nothing more from this project .

that "remake" was just a project by some guys to learn using the unreal engine. they only made the intro annd that's it, there won't be more.
What's wrong with the Unreal Engine? Some of the best games have used it.
Hackers love the unreal engine, that's why.
Not to mention that the PC version of FFVII is inferior to the original. Has been since it came out in 97
You might want to explain why. The way I've seen this, PC version had arguably better translation and everything else was pretty much kept unchanged. Controls were ass, but you can always plug in a controller.
The music wasn't great either. Midi music on the PC is nothing to write home about.

It is better in every aspect because fans made their own mods and patches. There is even a music patch that allows mp3 ...
Sure, this required some work and a lot of time but why Square seems unable to do the slightest of improvements is the real question ...

The inferior nature certainly includes the "unchanged" fact they didn't upres the video files at all (despite having a 4th install disc), so the PS1's relatively seamless transitions go from SVGA gouraud shading at 800x600 to a jarring 320x240 FMV. I think it was the Duck truemotion codec? /barf
And in the nineties there was no "always plug in" a controller. PC controllers were damn finicky in Windows or DOS, and some of the most popular ones didn't have as many buttons as a PS1 controller. The game had to fit text like "[PgUp]" into the UI for minigames.
So is the Character Booster just a trainer/save editor, or are there microtransactions too? XP
Who cares about achievements? What's fun about "achievements" that other players can also do. This is why I hate modern gaming, they would rather focus more on those useless things than the fun things.

Yeah, 8 was pretty underrated. At least on Dissidia Squall was freaking badass mopping the floor with anyone on his way.
If you compared the gameplay, 8 is pretty horrible compared to 7, even 9. Story-wise, it's great. That's why 8 is underrated.
The reason MIGHT when they're making this, they were under budget. They even cut Xenogears's budget and Xenogears suffered from it. You don't believe me? Play Xenogears if you haven't played it yet, then tell me about the 2nd disc's game play compared to 1st disc(It Made me wanted to kill them because they killed one of the best PS1 game by doing it)
Xenogears disc 2 was a travesty, a crime against art, a desecration of the magnificent world Tetsuya Takahashi created. I will never, ever forgive Square for it.
I will also hate Final Fantasy 8 forever because it likely was the reason Xenogears' budget was cut in the first place to pour all the money into it. It's also the worst FF I've played, and IMO was the start of the series' descent into mediocrity. Squall was an emo douchebag, his girlfriend was a frequently-kidnapped moron who fell in love with him for no reason, and the rest of the characters were about as deep as a sheet of paper. The story made zero sense. Zilch. It was pretty to look at, but a chore to play. And games should not be chores or make you hate the characters who represent you.
I liked 9. the change in art style was refreshing, if a big goofy.
FF8 had a horrible story and marked the fall of Square in quality. Squall is annoying and they never give a reason why Rinoa would be into him. The plot is a train wreck and the party members have 0 personality or character development.
wait... I already have that game on PC, it came out years ago.
The original(?) PC version had the ability to use directx, which somewhat improved the visuals over the PSX, but it was buggy as hell. Also, the FMV cutscenes where of poorer quality than the PSX. Here's to hoping they re-render all their assets and make it HD, at least.
