I don't think it's that their particularly older than cosplays your used to seeing. It's that there's a lack of over exposure, color grading, or any of that other crap that hides most of the details the camera catches. Though they really could have taken the time to level balance the images to clear up the film grain and awkward lighting conditions.
I hate to say it, but for the most part the first thing on my mind was "old hags."

The Asians, which are not even Japanese, are to Americanized and do not convey an sense of Moe, cute or interesting feelings. The Americans are the typical blondes with big thighs and no personality.
You also realize E3 is held in Los Angeles and not in Japan right? The only thing close that they have there is the Tokyo Game Show. They had their own E3 ONCE back in the 90's but sponsorship for it fell apart and they never had it again. So why again should it have all Asian booth babes again?
