Nintendo: “Consumers Can’t Tell Wii U From PS4 Anyway…”

Nintendo’s CEO has been saying the PS4 and Xbox 720 are no competition for the Wii U – because consumers won’t be able to tell the difference anyway.
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata in a recent interview, describing how irrelevant hardware specs are to the modern gamer:
“My impression is that the things that happened with Wii vs 360 or Wii vs PS3 won’t happen again.
If they decide to increase the spec numbers, will the consumers be able to realise the difference enough so that they can understand it’s much superior to today’s machine?
And also, if they beef up the processing power, that simply means much more work for software developers to take advantage of those spec numbers.
So I have to ask the question if that type of differentiation really makes sense.”
With the Wii U apparently struggling to beat even the current generation of consoles and some consumers sophisticated enough to understand something as complex as a screenshot, he had better be right.
In other remarks he politely chided Sony and Microsoft for ripping off Nintendo’s latest console, yet again:
“It’s quicker than before. After our showing of motion control, it took three years for other companies to follow suit.
But this time it’s just one year after our proposal, even before we’ve released the actual product. I think that proves the great potential of what we showed last year.
However, I have to point out that there are essential differences between what we are doing and what other companies are doing. The main difference is that anyone who has a Wii U will be able to enjoy the two screen experience, while the other companies are saying its optional, but only if you have this device or that device.”
He can perhaps be forgiven for a certain lack of concern after the crushing success of Move and Kinect.

We don't have a basement here, and the PCs are on the second floor (except for one in the living room).

If you don't have issues, then you're lucky. Anyone who tries to deny that on the average system, PC games always come with a ton of bullshit, is a deluded idiot. There are always issues, big and small, tiny things in game that you can never fix because it's simply an error in an engine which tries to cope with all the countless different PC varieties out there.
And for those issues that are fixable: just because you absolutely love tooling around with a broken game you've been sold, doesn't mean anyone else does, no matter whether or not it's easy, you fucking basement geek.
I don't care if fixing shit on products you bought makes you feel elite, I prefer something that just works. I come home to relax, not to work QA for free like you.

Sony fanboys rule this site. Just look at articles regarding Sony in comparison to 360's and Nintendo here. Both articles and commenters show obvious bias.
Look at the articles calling the 3DS a failure of a system when it launched, there were pages and pages of it, I have seen maybe 2 articles about the Vita and how pitiful its launch was. (One was the Chinese ripoff article form a few days ago and I don't recall any others but I hope there was at least one)

I think your "Sony =" is actually part of the 360 crowd. So more like:
Sony Consumer= people who play the widest variety of games.
360 Consumer= 8 year olds who think playing M-rated FPS's and swearing like a sailor makes them mature.

Why is someone who doesn't want to cope with inferior graphics an asshole?
Even if most games nowadays are console-centric and don't make use of the whole range of firepower PC GPUs offer, just being able to play at full screen resolution is a big plus. Not to mention sophisticated anti-aliasing techniques.
On the other hand, who needs insanely detailed graphics if the games are crap? Max Payne 1 was a lot more fun than 3.

It's called insecurity and the PC gaming pool is getting less and less releases because of pirating and a smaller fanbase. I have a computer that can run Witcher 2 on Ultra settings but I pretty much only play games on my 360 because I have more games for that I want to play.

nah, Its more about what games are on what system and what quality. in the end it doesn't matter what platform we play in we are all gamers, well except iOS.
Nintendo is making excuses for the fact that they want to save money on grpahics chipsets again. So much like Wii, WiiU's graphics will pale in comparison to PS4 or Xbox 720. The screen controller does intrigue me though. Looking forward to seeing a metriod, zelda, or starfox using it ( which I vainly hoped they'd have this year....-sigh- )

Graphical capabilities are really going uphill, as time passes it takes more number crunching power for less improvement.
We are past the days when the visuals on a new console will actually blow anyone away in contrast to the last. It'll take a real nit-picker to tell the difference.
It's going to be rough for most console makers next gen to put in a lot of horse power when most homes are upgrading TVs from SD to HD. Accomodating the jump from 480p to 1080p in itself takes a lot of power, and current consoles are already struggling so much that they had to render some scenes in games with lower res.
However, I agree that simply not putting an effort to get the best graphics solution for their newest console is basically deliberately screwing their fans, whether those fans care or not. The fucker knows they have enough kids who'll buy their shit regardless.
One can say that Nintendo probably took to heart the failure of Gamecube which was technically superior to gen-winner PS2. Then again, Gamecube's failure is attributed to a whole lot of other shit; disregarding DVD media as one of them.
I don't see ANY reason to put the most powerful hardware as possible in a console.
FF 13 and 13-2 were perfect examples of games that were clearly incredible to look at but because of that... we suffered in terms of "where in the &^%$ did my Final Fantasy go!?"
Truth is, we don;t need the ps4 or the 720 now... nor DO I think we will need it for at least 5 to 10 more years.
But hey, it's gonna happen. Sony promised us yet again, a 10 year system, but iirc ps3 came out during ps2's what was it... 7th or 8th year?

I only have a PS3and a Vita So I can only comment on the PS minis that the store is populated with. TO me this right there seemed like an attempt at winning over the "computer casual gamer" and the "smartphone/ipad/iphone" crowd.

He's really just under estimating the skills of console developers, has he not played an Uncharted game or seen what the Last of Us looks like...His predictions are awful and he's sadly mistaken if he thinks developers won't adapt to future upgraded console specs.(I'm the Anon that made the mother joke, and I stick by it, sry Nintendo fans :D)
