That depends on your definition of fan service.

K so picture one of the guns from this anime ( FNC, M16A4, L85A1, SG550, Galil) k then embody that gun as a girl. When they shoot each other they are guns shooting guns so they can only break parts/dent each others metal. Interesting concept eh?

And so ends? After all they are cyborgs or androids? Strange concept called gun but uses external weapons. Sadder is the dwindling number of chapters in each season, and end badly done with the intention of answering a next season or maybe never :(

Consider them the embodiment of the gun that they represent.

(No different from Hypnos being Sleep or Morpheus being Dreams in Greek Mythology.)

Being the embodiment of something doesn't mean that you can't make use of items. So in their case, they make use of the weapon that they represent.

View it as a way for companies to advertise their merchandise.

It's like the marketing video of the movie Prometheus, where Michael Fassbender plays an Android called David, who then tries to convince the audience, why they should buy other models like himself from the Weyland Corporation.

Now how it's possible that these guns end up as personifications is not something that's touched upon by the anime anyway. And I don't think the manga does either, as it's more of a slice of life/gag strip from what I've heard.

Just that the whole personification thing is something that's being going on for a while in their version of Earth, considering that a number of WW2 and even a WW1 gun have their representations as well.

The Headmaster of the School is a Springfield 1903. The other male teacher we see, dressed as a Marine Drill Instructor, is a M1 Garand. One of the female teachers is a FG42, whereas the other one shown is a Thompson SMG. Heck, the School "Nurse" is a Sig SK-46.

Please, tell us how you really feel. I'm sure there's an actual thought in there somewhere right?

"people kill people" tho i don't get it since a misfire can still lead to injuries. even a heated bullet can kill a person if that person is the most unluckiest guy in the world.

And by guns, you mean those girls and their boobs, right?

Fuck yeah. I remember the golden age of anime, when we had many of the best series ever made all coming out at once- Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, RahXephon, KareKano, Saikano, Trigun, Last Exile, Now & Then Here & There, Full Metal Panic, Noir, Onegai Teacher, Azumanga Daioh, Serial Experiments Lain... the list just goes on and on and on. The golden age has well and truly vanished without a trace and we are now stuck in anime's "dork age"- equivalent to the time in Western Comics when everyone thought Rob Liefeld (a guy who can't even get basic anatomy right and put more extraneous belts on his characters than a Square-Enix RPG) was the greatest artist in the industry. There's no creativity or taste in the industry any more, everything revolves around either fanservice bordering on outright porn, or mindless moe.

Fanservice and moe are not inherently bad things -consider some of the classics from the golden age like Love Hina and Azumanga Daioh- but they're not enough to build an entire series around, or at least not enough to make one with any semblance of QUALITY. But then again, audiences these days don't give a shit about quality, do they? Be honest, how many people here are watching this Upotte! garbage because it's actually a quality story, and how many are just watching it for the barely-dressed, barely-pubescent girls being oversexualised?
