“What They Say About Bleach Fans & Narutards is True…”

Statistical analysis demonstrating that Bleach and Naruto carry the least amount of text and have the biggest pictures of any Shonen Jump manga has lately been the cause of even more mockery of their much put upon fans.
The study’s findings are summarised in a chart of almost Shonen Jump level simplicity:
The basic approach of the investigation was to count the number of frames and lines of text in each title featured in Shonen Jump over 3 chapters, and so work out the general complexity of each title.
Although this can be interpreted in a variety of ways (a manga with short chapters might have to pack in the text), the most obvious conclusion is that a manga with hardly any text and only one or two frames per page is unlikely to be highly challenging to comprehend.
The creator of the study could not help but note that Bleach had by far both the lowest number of frames and the lowest amount of text of all two dozen titles, with its big pictures and absence of boring text ensuring that it is “living up to its name as every page is overwhelmingly a bleached white expanse.”
Close on Bleach’s heels is none other than Naruto – with the 2nd lowest amount of text and the very least amount of text per panel, although it is noted that this spartan use of the written word is largely excused by the strongly “dynamic” depictions the series is known for.
Meanwhile One Piece placed somewhere in the middle of the pack, although it did have the 4th highest amount of text per frame, it being suggested that each chapter contains a fairly large amount of information but that a low number of frames forces each to carry a fair amount of text.

Is this really a surprise they are shonen after all.
Basic Shonen
Protagonist: Hey are you the bad guy?
Antagonist: Yes!
Protagonist: Lets fight!
Antagonist: Hold it. You and your friends have to fight my underlings first!
Protagonist: Super move spamming GO!!
Antagonist: Ah, I can't believe you beat them! But you aren't strong enough to beat me!
Protagonist: Super move spamming GO!!, Oh no it didn't work!
Antagonist: I told you you were weak. Now You and all of your friends will die!
Protagonist: Last minute ultra friendship power MAX!!
Antagonist: No this can't be! Impossible!
Spread over as many chapters as needed profit
you forgot the constant flashback parts
Flashback arcs.
Training arcs.
Fucking incredible.
That sounds like a complete arc from Fairy Tail.
Or dragon ball z.
My Little Pony made it in with two episodes and a little bit more of creativity.
You sir just won all my internetz
u forget the last part where the antagonist turns into good guy, help him around and won the popularity poll contest
and the not-so-good turning really bad
Or dont forget, "we can't win now so we'll comeback when we can win THEN!"
Yeah, that's pretty much it.
It's understandable, since these ARE Shounen, and they follow a very general formula, some having slight deviations.
But... Bleach is nowhere near the middle. What the fuck.
You've clearly read only two generic fighting shonen(like Fairy Tail and JoJo), most shonen don't get even close to that formula.
Jojo generic? Don't post as Anonymous when you should be posting as Retard.
The most popular part of jojo followed exactly the formula stated above.
They have to kill Dio, but OH! they have to fight endless underlings first, then they get to Dio who is s stronger than the rest.
Then Deus Ex Machina, Jotaro won.
Seriously, it's not bad, but it's overrated as fuck.
mfw Jojo is generic fighting shonen
Who the fuck reads jojo?
like me?...silly
MOJO READS JOJO!
Annnd thats what Gintama would shamelessly put up in their chapters.
So true..
It happens every time..
/sigh
That's why I don't even read those Jumps..
I prefer Thermae Romae over those series..
It follows the same plot as Pocket Monster
too bad they all suck.
What about Gintama? That series is fucking amazing!
Gintama sucks a lot like gay men, all are homos and gays
Gintama's great, but the anime is SOOOO much better then the manga it's probably best to just wait for another season.
One of the few examples you can ever give where the anime is better then the manga.
Gintama gets kind of old when you grow out of jokes featuring excrement.
Of course, some people never do.
Don't know about you but I found the Gintama manga great as well. Now for Nichijou, they did an amazing job with the Anime, far surpassing the original manga which just didn't give the amount of impact with some of the scenes as the anime did.
Ginatama anime is good solely because of the seiyuu and not so much because it is animated. It's by far the only show where i can happily watch filler episodes where the protagonists do nothing other than sitting under their kotatsu, talking and eating tangerines.
But yeah, you have to treat them both as separate. The manga has a perfect balance of frames a and text, imho. Which is quite surprising, since there's a LOT to read there. It's quite astonishing how much humour/spoof is in almost each line. The perfect comedy/satire, if there ever was one.
and anon 5:27 would know because he reads and watches them all.
Your comment has too little text and way too much white space. Translation: Boring shit.
and it's too bad when other manga sucks harder than the big 3.
either a 12-year old japanese boy that knows english or a 40-year old white man detected
What's wrong with being a 40 year old white man? We all get older in time. duh.
Have you learned nothing from manga stereotypes? Japanese don't speak English unless they are genius lolis and/or have studied in America!
Don't forget Anthrax... big FOUR
Aaah i see what you did there :p
honestly, i don't really see the connection between more text and good manga.
i'm curious as to where to LOVEru would be on that list, but wherever it would be, it wouldn't change the fact that it's better than every other manga on that chart.
Time you realise ToLoveRu is currently not serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. Be glad it isn't, or you will not see any nipples :)
that's true
I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that just because it's not serialized in Jump, it cannot be compared on generic metrics to the Jump line-up?
they are sayign that this list here only includs jump manga.
Well people who are insecure about what they like need something to up their self esteem?
But yes, you are right about more text doesn't mean it's a good manga or good book. Pointless babble is pointless. Transitioning of scenes, the art, fulidity of the plot and when to use text is as important as each other really.
Yeah. It's totally unrelated.
More text = better, Detective Conan?
LOL.
I don't see the connection between more text and good visual stories, period. Doesn't matter if it's a movie or a graphical novel or whatnot. I guess that might border too much into "Viewers are genuiouses" trope though, if you convey a complex story with minimal text. But I'm definitely no genious yet I enjoy the fuck out of stuff like that. Complex stories that are heavy on the "Show, don't tell" I mean.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm *ponders* come to the realization that this chart has overall proved absolutely nothing.
I think they fail to realize the manga has to be good. It does not have to be complex or simple or somewhere in the middle. That part does not matter really at all. All that really matters is if it is good :\
Take bakuman and naruto i like both a whole lot but they are on the other sides of this chart, i also like one piece which is in the middle so what does this chart prove exactly?
to me it shows your manga can be simple , complex, or somewhere int he middle and still be great as well as still can be shit.
I... can't... take... it... Too... much... reason... on... your comment!
Medaka that low text-wise? Really? Could have sworn it's going to be in the top 3 with all the text-heaviness.
This graphic is truly retarded and subjective. They just threw darts on it.
See that. Narutards aren't really retarded. They're just functionally illiterate.
As much as I dislike ad hominem, I really think it would have helped your case if you cleaned up your sentences before you bashed Naruto fans. Naruto and Bleach have their own place in the manga world. Would you say The Da Vinci Code is better than Green Eggs and Ham? "To each their own" is a proverb I hope not all people have forgotten. :(
Dan Brown is a good writer, but he follows a formula. Same basic plot over and over, he just changes the theme/locations and the secondary protagonist. If you read all his books backwards and pay attention to the plot sequences, you'll see how he developed his formula all the way back to Digital Fortress.
If you carefully read the first four novels in order, you should've been able to guess the ending to Lost Symbol pretty easily. Shouldn't take you more than 2/3rds into the book.
Don't get me wrong, he's an entertaining author, but he needs a fresh plot line.
most than agree with it. not to mention the topics he writes about are treated with an almost comical shallowness :)
