The severe theatre of Chinese justice has been impressing Chinese and international audiences alike, although perhaps for different reasons.
The pair shown allegedly used axes to rob a Shaanxi province jewellery store of valuables worth some 600,000 yuan ($95,000), but were caught 4 days after the robbery.
Both shackled criminals and heavily armed security forces were all on display to local citizens in an effort to thoroughly cow the perpetrators and discourage the public from following their example:

Axes? What is this, Kung Fu Hustle?
you run faster with a knife but obviously they got caught carrying axes.
Their DEX stats weren't high enough to wield knives.
they should have put points in leap or whirlwind to get past those guards
Obviously they chose the Barbarian class and equipped Axe, but tried to use the Steal skill. Now they should have known to choose the Thieve class instead where Steal success rate is higher.
Shame, they didn't have enough modifiers to their movement.
they're Barbarian class
I'm am loving u guis right nao.
takes one to know one.
If you couldn't read the signs hanging from there necks and were just a bad judge of facial expressions and posturing you'd think they were bowing after being presented with a red velvet lined aquarium.
Wait, you mean they're not?
Never underestimate exploding axes.
Damn you Michael Bay!
That would imply China being the most cost-effective place to shoot the next Bayformers. Practically everything in China explodes, so no need to buy live demolition equipment.
Axes are nothing. Throwing handles is where it's at.
Did they fly thru the air?
Only if they were doing the dance.
Well, they will be axed later, believe it.
@03:32
it's hard to take organs from someone axed to death
metaphorically speaking, metaphorically.
there is no axe in the photo
...the axe got away.
It exploded during the getaway, peices were too small to find.
the axe effect
china edition
The criminals you see in the photos used axes
The criminals in the photos are carrying guns.
Well it was axed for being to expensive, this is China afterall.
For once I'd like to see the US follow China's cue and use a similar display on all the Wall Street Execs and Bankers who destroyed so many peoples lives with their greed and stupidity.
Unfortunately it will never happen. In the US only gas station and 7/11 store thieves get nailed and do hard time.
Won't happen in China either.
I thought they will execute the prisoner by putting dynamite in their body and then BOOM! Chinese style!
Ironically, explosives are the only things that doesn't explot as they should in China.
Corrupt officials or executives are one of the rare cases where criminals are executed.
So yes, they are a step up from the Americans.
Stupidity? No. It's malice and denial that drives banking institutions.
This is why people like us can't have super powers. We'd fix too much shit.
Tell that to Bernie Madeoff.
Bernie Madoff is hardly in Levenworth doing hard time. He's in a low security federal facility know as "Camp Fluffy" by the inmates. He bragged to his daughter about being treated like a Mafia Don. Outside of the life sentence it's not a gulag or chain gang.
And it's greedy corporations that make the technology and other modern convinces you enjoy. Stop being an ignorant cry-baby.
Last time I checked bankers and engineers were different people.
Hint: engineers are the people inventing all the awesome stuff. Economists are the ones feeding off of engineers and the guys speculating with our money and loosing it in the process are the guys running the banks.
If you are american and understand that owning money (Dollars) means owning debt, than you understand enough to be pretty angry at your country. Though,.. that hasn't as much to do with speculating as it has to do with a certain bank printing money out of their ass.
Ambrose Bierce once said that Economics was created to give economists jobs.
Economists? LOL what the hell are you talking about?
Economists are just nobodies making predictions and "analysis" on the economy.
Apparantly the word I was going for didn't really translate to economist, even though my dictionary claimed so. Replace with "people that study business administration".
"people that study business administration" = MBAs aka management by numbers
Sign translations = Caution: May Explode Without Warning
all girls should wear that sign.
No it doesn't, it say "Robbery Culprit" along with their names... Huh, are they related? Because they have the same surnames
EVeryone in CHina has the same name. There are only about 20 common surnames.
Could law enforcement in China even be called justice? What I see here is the military being involved which should not be the case in any country that is not some backwards third world shit hole.
Since there is no trial just a public exhibition like something out of the middle ages can we even be sure they got the right people vs arrest some random sap or the people who bought the stolen jewelry which of course even these taken by a potato quality photo looks fake.
That's not the military. That's the People's Armed Police. It's really easy to tell them apart. The PAP has those bright red shoulder strips. The PLA doesn't use those, cause, you know, camouflage and all that.
They are paramilitary which means there is not much difference between them and PLA soldiers and do assist the PLA during war time.
They... wait, I think I should say... We are still a third world country. You shouldn't be surprised. The only place in China that the police cant do things like this is Hong Kong and we got the British to thanks for. But not for long though, the damn commies are trying to break our justice system and it becomes more like a police state. The reasons they are doing this is because too many people are doing things like this and it is more rampant specially when you have a thrid world system with a first world economy. I've been in China a few times and every time I can see a few ridiculous things that I had never imagined.
The one funny thing Ive seen in the news is that a Chinese criminal gang actually got a small amry of its own.. Ak-47,nades, armored vehicles with MGs mounted on top and uniforms... I was like WTF when I was watching that news on TV. Since then, I understand why there are PAP on the street. A typical bule shirt police who got a college degree in Art holstering a 0.38 cal tiny revolver is like a nerd with a bb gun for them. (yes this is a typical Hong Kong Police for ya, and I got 2 friends in there)
"...public exhibition like something out of the middle ages..."
Hence China never change, only look more modern.
Before people would be broken and left to die, now they can be broken and organs recycled. Modernity!
Let me clear up the mistakes in your post Mr loli vampire.
They have a trial which follows laws, rules of evidence and all the other stuff foreign courts have. After the trial these particular criminals were paraded in public as part of their sentence. Since "face" is incredibly important in Chinese society this is an even better punishment than jail (which they will also get. They will NOT be executed. Execution is exceedingly rare).
There is ZERO military involvement in law enforcement. The men you see in the photo are the Chinese equivalent of SWAT. The men would have been captured by ordinary policemen who investigated the crime like police do anywhere else in the world. The SWAT are only there to make sure there is zero chance that two violent criminals will escape or harm the public.
I know its cool to hate the evil Chinese in front of your weeaboo buddies but if you are going to hate at least try to find real reasons...
There is reason why weeaboos are weeaboos. Reading and research is the last thing fanboy types are to do. It's much easier hating and being ignorant. Remember when all the Microsoft and Sony fanboys was hating at how "crappy" the 3rd party demoed games were for the Wii U, but were actually direct demos from the 360 and PS3...yeah.
They should just let criminals walk free like we have here in NY...
"Allegedly" is a legal term. If you have source of news other than SanCom, you'd have known that they're caught on camera, as well as by many witnesses. The idiots showed shit-eating grins while showing off their faces too. They're guilty of stupidity, and stupidity should be punished by humiliation.
Having solid evidence is not an excuse to bypass due process. Don't think that just because you haven't done anything, you cannot be alleged criminal with "rock solid evidence" (tm) stacked against you.
Due process is expensive time consuming and not much of a disincentive.
Make an example is cheap and makes for a good show.
Truth, how is that relevant to either?
That's a concept thought up by 1st world elitists who think they are better than everyone else.
I agree.
Perhaps China should follow the West's shining example and have their crime rates rise above 30% at the same time too?
Yeah, who needs due process. Just so long as the people think we caught the criminal and publicly humiliated them the crime rate can go down. Why don't you volunteer to be the first scapegoat?
This system is even worse, because unlike in the West a great many criminals are never brought to justice. Because of either their connections, them belonging to the ruling class or a great many other reasons.
So just because their crime percentage is lower on the paper doesn't mean it's lower in reality.
Anarchy is the only system that hasn't these kind of problems, because everyone is fucked equally. After a while the strong will do something about it and create a system to benefit themselves. We can see those kind of systems all around the world. Coming and going..
I like the systems that are easy to understand. If they are easy to understand it will be easier to adapt. But no such luck in my life. I still have to struggle to fill out forms I'm not even sure which purpose they fullfill.
"due process is a joke; it only benefits the rich"
Who exactly does china's system benefit?
That's not what due process is. Due process means that the police cannot come into your home and shoot you in the head because they allegedly have evidence that you are an enemy of the state.
What you are talking about is an entirely different issue.
Both systems have their own problems.
@02:33 17/05/2012
And the Chinese system doesn't?
@ Anon 03:30 that is true the real criminals rarely face any sort of punishment in China.
I seen examples of companies in China counterfeiting a sealant used in aviation right down to the brand name on the tube and brake parts that were made of suspect materials.
Both of these examples probably have resulted in fatalities but nothing is done about it.
due process is a joke; it only benefits the rich
that's the trade off you commie bastard. live in a society where you have no basic rights or live in a free country. i choose freedom.
