The sight of students in a Chinese school hooked up to intravenous drips in order to better study on through the night has lately been drawing much attention to the remarkable quality of Chinese education.
Parents are said to approve of the practice, being willing to pay any price in order to secure better grades.
The local government reportedly already subsidises the amino acids drips to in a bid to boost performance at national college entrance exams, but the time lost moving students to the infirmary to administer them prompted this school to move the drips to the classroom.
In the best tradition of both China and obscure supplements, there appears to be little scientific evidence that the practice actually boosts performance, and also little guarantee over what exactly is put in the feeds.

If you still fail the entrance exam, you're considered a 'college drip-out'.
Which in turn is regarded a very retarded pun.
no crowbar, you're just an idiot with nothing better to add
Well... He is a Crowbar.
One could say that he is a big tool.
college drip out! never thought of that
But that doesn't mean that someone is listening.
no no I think I speak for everyone when I say puns are lame
Doping kids for better grades.
Wow.
all is right in the world of capitalism!
capitalism ho!
This is an ancient practice of the mongoloid warriors to conquer their destiny.
Soon they will be sabotaging each other's drips
Will probably explode.
Will sink first, then explode.
The IVs are probably laced with lead.
Are the drip tubes even sanitized for that matter?
Nah, they'll just snort some dried rhino penis - this will eliminate all infections.
lol'd hard
recycled from sewage
hahah
I thought that it was some funny stuff like methamphetamine, not useless, boring stuff like amino acids.
Also, it won't help, but it can make their veins inflamed. Way to go China!
Sitting so long that you need a drip also will cause deep vein thrombosis a potentially life threatening condition.
I wonder how many also are wearing depends to deal with that other distraction of having to get up to go to the bathroom?
There may not be scientific evidence for it as a concept, but there's also not a lot of scientific evidence for many of the naturopathic treatments for cancer that I used and they work. So I've learned that just because there's no evidence in a corrupt medical field doesn't mean jack shit. In fact in our case, "...not approved by the Food and Drug Administration" these days is like a seal of approval.
In their case though, it's much more of an issue of sanitation and... well... the reason they're doing it. Amino acids aren't some witchcraft, they do work when utilized properly, but there's something to be said for the intention that diminishes their usefulness. Even if it is china's backwards logic, even they wouldn't subsidize it if it didn't somehow prove itself to work in this context.
Healthier than energy drinks, that much is inarguable.
What is this ''bureku'' you speak of?
Biologically speaking you can achieve the same results eating a stick of beef jerky and drinking an energy drink or if you want one step a protein shake.
It's really simple after 3 or 4 hours studying get up take a break and eat a snack and go to the bathroom if needed.
As for loosing 15 to 30 minutes it's not wasted it's good idea to give your brain and eyes a break.
I didn't realize you had to study that hard to steal/copy other nation's technology.
They bought magnetic levitation transport system from Germans with the reason that they were not able to copy/steal it, they want that to never happen again.
They try to study harder, so they don't have to steal anymore. Sadly they don't realize that studying is bullshit and kills creativity which is needed for the inventions they just copy.
nonono, they study harder to find legal loopholes with allow them to steal and not be penalized.
I know you are being sarcasm and I respect that. However, as an Engineer who are a Chinese and escaped from that shit hole becuase I was not allowed to design what I wanted and the boss just want me to make something "looks like" some popular products. I moved out and back to where I was born, got a job and work for the Army. Anyway, not all or most Chinese want to make crappy low cost duplicates but as long as you are a small time employee and you got a family to feed, what can you do? Some of my Chinese friends study real hard, they make real innovative things (open source) at home but their work forbid them to use their creativity. They are smart and creative people but its not the people who arnt creative, is those who are in the management level dont love creativity. I got mad every time people say Chinese (or imply All Chinese) just know how to copy stuff. I cannot argue that because it is what it looks like but I know its not the truth. I am gonna do something about it but as a single person, I wonder how much impact I can make.... well Id better stfu and back to do programs... probably fap a few Doujinshi before I sleep.
That isn't just a problem in China, it's a problem around the entire world. I regularly pop in and out of indie game development teams, almost every last one is "ok I want that from Game A, this from Game B, and if we have time you can pursue your own idea". Except we never have time to pursue our own ideas because we're too busy making our own versions of other ideas. It's not much different in the professional world, except in that world if you do manage to sneak in your own stuff you get fired instead of a slap on the wrist.
Before anyone bashes China for copying. Just take a few moments to look at the products your own country creates. At least Chinese products are brazen enough to put a "compared to Brand X" on the label so you know it's a blatant ripoff.
@09:42
Aw, man, don't take it so seriously. We (at least I hope most of us) know that there can be a innovative chinese. But the system you have right now fucks everything up, like you yourfelf see. As a polish guy I can tell you that life in Poland, when we were under the "care" of comunist Rusia was as absurd as that. To stay mentally healthy you have to laugh it off. They are quite a few polish comedies from that time, that show the insanity people had to go through, like: Miś, Co mi zrobisz jak mnie złapiesz, Nie lubię poniedziałków, Seksmija, Alternatywy 4. I'm afraid there won't be any chinese subs, but maybe at least english ones. I highly recomend them if you get a chance.
That's kind of incorrect, Chen. I mean seriously, school studying does tend to stifle creativity, but in general it does offer some perspective on the world people wouldn't usually get. They wouldn't be ABLE to come up with new stuff if they didn't understand the science behind it and get introduced to things they didn't otherwise know existed, so while I do agree with your basic idea, I also disagree. But then again, this is the Chinese version of science and world history, so perspective may be a misnomer here...
@HouseLife
You are right, studying was the wrong word. Replace it with memorizing.
Well it's hard for them
sucks to be a chinese
Obese white man detected

And you've triggered my TRAP CARD. I summon Hastur-kun.
u mad little yellow-man?
We're not interested in Africa. Sorry, cannot help you there. But I'm sure there enough fetishists to permanently alter the oriental gene pool. :p
As a little yellow man I humbly request great white man to come back and civilise Asia. Very good job you did with Japan, most civilised now. Now please continue with rest of Asia. And Africa for that matter.
I wouldn't dare to accept chinese IV-drips even if it actually contained something useful.
Sounds like government sanctioned experimentation to me!
College drip-outs...
My only reason to believe why china is lasting this long as a country and hasn't self-destructed yet is because the government has tons of freaking money that they are getting from other countries and in not so honest ways either.
yes, chinese parents like these and anyone like them have to wake up and face the facts................. not everyone in a country needs to have a degree. in fact, it is preferable that only few do or else who the hell is gonna work in starfucks and serve cofee?
have you ever been to the united states? doesn't seem to matter whether people have degrees or not. higher education is just a way to do something inbetween your jobs at starbucks or whatever restaurant.
Actually, in China, there is a huge difference in income between white collar workers and blue collar workers.
Your average Chinese laborer, say a someone working mass production in a factory somewhere, will earn <$0.75 an hour. Your average Chinese "white collar" will make at least twice that much.
So yeah, some Chinese parents are willing to do just about anything to get their kids a "good" college education, even if it does mean destroying their lives in the process.
They should give genetical engineering a try. Works like a charme if done right.
Suspect the Government might be hesitant about that. Just recall Tiananmen Square, now factor in students who are stronger, faster, and hardier than the soldiers/police sent to suppress them.
As you'd only want to enhance your most loyal troops to the same degree, this due to the risks of a military coupe otherwise.
Would just further complicate matters.
Honestly, I would not be surprised to discover that China is already working on or creating genetically altered beings. Superior athletes, whom can pass a drug screening. Anything to take home Olympic gold.
With GE you can make brilliant cripples. Anything you want. At least in theory.
What's the point in making their bodies stronger?
