“Which Country Has The Most Plastic Surgery?”

Statistics showing just which nations engage in the most cosmetic surgery demonstrate the rather impressive lead the likes of South Korea, Brazil and the US have over everyone else – something admittedly evident from looking at the less than natural wonders each of these nations is so blessed with.
The chart is adjusted for the relative population of each country, and based on UN and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery data as assembled by The Economist, explaining why the USA’s clear lead in absolute numbers (3.3 million procedures in 2010) is overshadowed by the impressive per capita surgery rates some of the more vain nations enjoy.
Unsurprisingly, South Korea comes out on top, although even this may not reflect the full extent of Korea’s love of plastic surgery – survey data found as many as a fifth of the women in Seoul have been under the knife.
The popularity of different operations in each nation also varies dramatically; Brazil sees seven times more buttock enhancements than the average, and five times more vaginal alterations, whilst Greece sees ten times more penis enlargements – perhaps the better to further shaft German taxpayers, it might be thought.

This is why the per capita consideration is goofy, as you'll notice that China still clocks in at 1.27 million surgeries, which is actually the second highest on the chart. So while compared to the total Chinese population of 1.3 billion that seems a small number, that is still 1,270,000 people.

Look at the chart. China ranks third in the most number of plastic surgery procedures. More than Japan and double that of South Korea.

So sad that people aren't happy with who they are anymore. I can understand people that's been in some sort of accident or born with a defect, but those doing it just because something isn't "perfect" are pathetic. Can't expect others to love you for you if you can't love yourself for who you are.

Hey, 03:50 - part of it is personality; if a person gets most of their self-image from what other people say about them, and has poor logic skills (or doesn't use them), then they'll be more likely to get cosmetic surgery.

What part of "those doing it just because something isn't "perfect"" was so hard to understand? Most people I've seen go under the knife were doing so out of vanity, not out of medical necessity. As I said, I understand those doing it out of medical necessity, but I don't get the pathetic vanity. Learn to comprehend.
What is up with South Korea?
Availability. There are skincare clinics every block and you can get treatment for a tenth of the price. Surprisingly run by well certified people whom most yield pleasant results.
Basically said, anyone can find time and opportunity to do it on a whim and afford it from a child's allowance. Because of this its become a norm, nothing to really think twice about.
Whats weird here is just every day life elsewhere. Cultural shock!

It's also because of the monopolising beauty standard that (sadly) has been established there: Double eyelids (therefore bigger eyes), "V-Lines" (Sharp jawlines), "small face" etc.
Many young Korean women go under the knive because of that standard and the social norms that seem to go with it; Social integrity (Everyone does it, so why not me, no big deal!), attracting men, being successful in job interviews, higher self-esteem...
Because of that, more and more of them start to look the same, and what I find sad about it is that they are ready to give up their own unique appearance and their true self-acceptance so easily.
They have to look special and beautiful. Just like everybody else.
That or maybe many Korean women aren't all that pretty to begin with so they elect to get surgery.

The US is only sixth? But we have Hollywood and the porn industry. But there are a lot of regulations on plastic surgrey banning a lot of procedures.

in Asia we always judge south-korean women -> if they beautiful, they are from plastic surgery. sure its misconception but this chart only reinforce evidence!
