Urabe is the appeal. That's why it's "Mysterious Girlfriend" and not "Mysterious Drool".
I know what you mean. When I heard the news early this year, I thought to myself....man!....why?. There is nothing "cool" about the manga. The only thing that draws me to the manga, is the mysteriousness of Mikoto. It makes you want to wait in pain for the next chapter. What is she, does she have a deeper connection with Momo her lookalike, and where are her parents? Still so many questions...probably will never be answered.
So far I have not watch the anime yet, but I have the most recent episodes. I'm going to wait til the manga is over, then I'll wait to watch the anime.
On another note. I'm a little worried about Akira and Ryouko. That part where he tasted her finger/drool and it is, as he stated "tasted sweeter than usual". I hope Mikoto's faith on Akira remains undaunted. Although this has happened before. He even had a nosebleed cause by Mikoto's look like the idol. But that nosebleed was caused due to his pervyness.
And that matters....why?

I love the direction of this anime, I love the atmosphere and of course that damn carnival like soundtrack is amazing to listen to, Gives me a sort of Dark feel to it but at the same the 90s esque visual makes the anime look colorful.
I don't dislike the saliva, infact i have accepted the fact that the story might revolve around the saliva and the bond, but that whole Finger sucking is still getting to me, I just close my eyes like the main guy whenever urabe gives her the saliva.
But unlike the main guy i pray to holy heaven no one sticks a finger in my mouth while closing my eyes.
