Little Busters! fans are still smarting at being denied their much hoped for KyoAni adaptation, and much fuel has been poured on the flames with the news that they were “too busy” to undertake the project, leaving fans stuck with JC Staff.
A comment from the CEO of Key operators “Visual Art’s” on Twitter set things off:
“Good evening! I’d like to ask about the Little Busters anime adaptation – why wasn’t it KyoAni?”
“Because they were busy…”
He tries to put a brave face on things:
“I understand your worries and expectations of anime companies. I and the staff feel the same way.
However, after seeing how enthusiastic JC Staff and company were about doing it, we decided to entrust our beloved title to them all the same.”
To say this is rubbing salt in the wound for Kudo fanciers is something of an understatement:
“Give us a break!”
“He was basically saying it would have been best for KyoAni to handle it in interviews…”
“I think it’s just pretence. KyoAni probably doesn’t want the hassle.”
“He said he most wanted them to do it but they weren’t available in another interview.”
“I bet you lot would be up in arms if they changed the seiyuu around because they are too old.”
“I think as it stands KyoAni can only put out decent anime, so they couldn’t manage Little Busters.”
“They don’t want to do any more eroge I bet.”
“It’s KyoAni’s fault for being busy! Blame the K-ON! movie for keeping them busy.””
“But I really wanted to see KyoAni’s Kudo…”
How JC Staff feels about the endless complaints about KyoAni not adapting the title is not hard to guess.

Okay, I understand because they were busy with Hyouka, but what about P. A. Works? Angel Beats was pretty good.
Angel Beats was shitty, I don't know why people like that show as much as they do.
I really enjoyed it. It's just a matter of personal taste.
"haters always hate" like you
Angel Beats is "honestly" shitty because it's only 12 episodes.
The transistion between "funny and "serious" is just to awkward sometimes
and I would honestly like to see more pasts unveiled
Angel Beats was pretty good? are u kidding me?? Angel Beats is SHIT... totally Haruhi-like character, and totally SHIT storyline
Agreed, I say P.A. Works should do it. Little Busters! seems to suit them more anyway.
And Angel Beats!, best anime ever!! So, I think they could do an amazing job with Little Busters!
Excellent. Their time is better spent making good anime.
After some of the previews of Hyouka I've seen I could see why people would want KyoAni doing it but JC Staff does perfectly fine work. To Aru Majutsu no Index series comes to mind.
I know, right? JC Staff has done some pretty good work in the past To Aru, Slayers, Tora Dora, Ano Natsu. They were all good.
JC Staff didn't get Slayers until '99, it was done by EG Films beforehand.
The people who think Index was a good adaptation were hypnotized by the early strong budget and traced real-world locations for backgrounds. If you read the novels you'd realize they leave out a ton of detail, Touma working out how to beat the magicians instead of running at them like a bull over and over, and several large chunks of story. One particularly bad one they left out is a story during Angel Fall about Touma's past. Season two had some of the worst pacing for a JC Staff series yet, and Railgun was literally half JC Staff created filler. They retconed part of the actual manga material, changing personalities and adding in bits of K-ON style fluff to push Satan in more scenes, and then removed all breadcrumb plot points leading into Mikoto's side of the sisters/Accelerator arc.
So no, JC Staff did not do "perfectly fine" on Index, and has a track record stretching back years now of screwing up their adaptations, particularly those involving Kugumiya Rie voicing the main character.
they traced some BGs yes, but if you actually pay attention, you'd see that a lot of buildings were made strangely-shaped because of the fact because academy city has a lot of experimental buildings.
If J.C. Staff let the same team that worked on Railgun do this, then I think it could turn out pretty damn good. I saw the PV of Hyouka as well, and it was glorious!
So lemme get this straight. They were 'to busy' to adapt a high profile property that people have quite vocally been calling for over the last 5 years, which would likely have made them a ton of cash?
Great business sense there KyoAni.Hoh well, hopefully JC staff will use all the complaining about it not being KyoAni to get fired up and make a really awesome series just to give us all the finger :P
Would the complainers learn anything if JC Staff is offended and it never gets made?
That would just prove that they can't handle criticism then. Plus some people would rather prefer that it never got made, if it wasn't going to be made by KyoAni.
Most of the people complaining aren't really mad at JC Staff anyway, they are more mad at KyoAni then anything for not doing it.
I for one think that if KyoAni is too busy, then they should just wait a little bit and even if it takes another year or two, then they can make the Little Busters! anime then.
Who knows too, if JC Staff really does mess it up enough, then the same thing could happen that happened with Kanon. Where Toei really screwed it up the first time in 2002, and then KyoAni came back in 2006 and made it a masterpiece. So thats always an option as well.
Jesse -- "Too busy" means just that.
All studios have a limited amount of staff. That means in-house animators, and supervisors-of-subcontracted-animators.
Why would any studio's customers ever trust them again if that studio had contracted to do "Project X", then blew off "Project X" because "Project Y" came along and was so much cooler?
Anon 09:54 -- you make a good point; I don't know why you were downvoted.
Point is, if this project came to them they should have put it on the cards for the future. Im not telling them to discard other, active projects, that would be even worse business sense, but letting go of a title like this when they could have moved it to their next free slot instead was a poor move.
Downmark me if you want, but is JC Staff really THAT bad?
Or is it simply that fans are all like "Accept no substitutes." when it comes to this and firmly believe that all Key VN's are better off with KyoAny to be turned into anime than with anybody else?
It's pretty much the same thing that has happened with Metal Gear Rising and Platinum Games.
Nope, they're pretty good. It's just that KyoAni is deemed to be the superior Animation studio by many and they have also handled all the other Key works like Clannad, Air and Kanon. Considering the fact that Little Busters is considered to be one of the best of the Key Visual Novels, it would be understandable that fans want the best for the Anime adaptation and it would have only been natural for KyoAni to handle it since they did the rest of them as well.
this ^
also, as I wrote in another comment:
"The problem lies in that if they cant handle the work, their reputation will go down as expected but at the same time they'll sink a great title as well...
Also, there's the the point of kyoAni being an expert in Key's adaptation...
I do hope JC Staff to do a great job but...."
I would disagree. They are really bad as of now.
They can produce gems yeah there's no denying that, however we could not turn a blind eye on the atrocities and inconsistencies they are currently having.
Not to mention J.C. Staff is mostly hit or miss in their adaptations, and as the years go on, more of their anime end up on the 'miss' list.
They can't seem to adapt the novel/manga right nowadays, just look at how god-awful Yumekui Merry, Hidan no Aria and Zero no Tsukaima 3 and 4 turned out, and giving them a chance to potentially create a masterpiece or completely ruin a visual novel again is something to be concerned about.
50/50. Half is shit, half is good, and you never know how it's turn up.
The only thing JC Staff needs to do is prove them wrong... but I doubt that.
"Because they were busy…"
So can I assume Haruhi season 3 and K-on! Season 3 soon?
I support your reasoning! At least I damn well hope it's Haruhi S3.
i doubt haruhi is coming considering most people hate aya now -3- haters be hatin
most people hate aya now
Otaku not humans, and today they will have a difficult night.
How difficult would it be to replace her as the VA? Just work in a previously recorded sound clip, digitally insert a loud cough, and then complete the rest of the quote with the new voice actress.
One of the other characters might ask "What happened to your voice?" She'll answer "What about my voice?" and that will be the end of the matter.
THAT SIR IS GENIUS =))
FMP 3rd Raid!!! *gasp*
Oh well who am I kidding.
Yes, where's my third season of FMP!?
Err.
FMP already has three seasons. Or are you ignoring Fumoffu because it wasn't "serious?"
@anon 17:21
nah, I'd say the first one's more likely to be discounted than Fumoffu, due to it being done by Gonzo instead of KyoAni. It is also plausible that one could say "third season" by mistake, especially considering the latest installment (and the real third season, incidentally) was titled "Second Raid".
3rd. What's in Fumoffu stays in Fumoffu. Pony.
And then KyoAni release FMP : Fumoffu 2!
Be it 3rd Raid or Fu-Fumoffu, it matters not. 1st and 2nd Raid were great plot-driven mecha shows, and Fumoffu was the most perfect, masterfully crafted filler collection ever. I'll greatly appreciate either.
People weren't expecting a second Last Exile, or Moyashimon Returns.
Hyakko 2~~
People didn't want it, either.
Haha. Moyashimon Returns. Wtf.
They are currently dealing with "Hyouka"
Hope this means they´ll do FMP next cuz Gotou is the writer of Hyouka
Hyouka is only a replacement for the scrapped third season of Haruhi. Fuck Kadokawa.
Yes, because everyone wants milked cash cow crap instead of quality stuff like LB. Fuck kyoani
KyoAni can't count to 3
Like Valve
Lucky Star needs a second season!
Maybe they simply realized that when something has been this long awaited and the fans are this rabid, you simply can't win. Any company will probably take flak because you can't please all creepy otaku at once.
