Right some time at the 1st of last year they doubled the price then tripled the price. The ones that are 7 inches tall are no longer affordable by any one because they start at 175.00 and that don't even include shipping and handling. They used to cost from 60 bucks to 90 bucks depending on if old or a pre order. So it was usually 117 bucks with shipping and handling. For those that didn't buy a load of them before 2008, I feel sorry for you, there are some wonderful ones that make up for ones you couldn't get before being made now but again cost too much.
Where the hell are you buying figures? All my 1/8 sizes cost less than $100, even if they're something high quality, like Alter. Some of the older ones have gone up in price due to popularity and the lack of a rerelease, but only the rarest I've seen get up to $200+. I almost never see a pre-order figure start at more than 10,000 yen, unless you're buying from a place that marks it up by a huge percentage.
All the figures I see in this post were available for <$100 when they came out, with the exception of a few smaller-run or ero figures, I think. There are a few I can't identify.
If you're talking about ebay scalper prices for the older figures, you're right. But you can always find a few reasonably priced ones on YahooJapan. (You need a proxy service)
Alice is correct. You can find new & preordered figs for much less than $175. If you're going on J-list prices that's just crazy. There's WAY cheaper places but I don't think I can list them here because they might be filtered out.
Google the character & brand & you'll eventually get some hits. Don't do a google-shopping search 'cuz the scalpers have that rigged.
I noticed that at a recent convention, that they had more then doubled in price for after market. I have not seen them increase in price at all on the Japanese sites. The conversion rate is terrible right now, so that is what is driving the price up. Blame the US Govt for making the dollar worth shit

figures are incredible. just to look at them makes me feel better.. they dont need to be expensive i have figures for 15€ as well as 70€ i got 15 figures and they never bored me. Its the highest art i can think about! they amaze me. even if the figures made by machines even if i got only a copy of the original.
my girlfrind has to understand that, and ofcourse has to love them as well :)

I don't know about the 'Wife' thing, but there are some spectacular figures out there. The one in particular that I like is a Loran Cehack figure. It didn't cost me much either. I also have a Yuki Nagato figure where you can have her either wearing her uniform or alien witch costume that is pretty great as well.
