Hollywood Bleach Movie Confirmed – “It Deserves This…”

A Hollywood movie adaptation of interminable Shonen Jump manga Bleach is said to be underway, causing much distress amongst fans fearing another DragonBall or Akira style “adaptation” of a manga classic.
According to the reports, Warner Brothers and Viz Media have concluded a movie contract, and Peter Segal (director of such classics as “Get Smart” and “50 First Dates” and said to be a fan of the series) is likely to be directing.
The adaptation itself would be of the manga rather than the anime, although there are no details as to how faithful to the original it will be.
The adaptation was initially mooted in 2010, but only recently has production been confirmed. Mangaka Tite Kubo has apparently yet to comment on the development.
Given the less than stellar record of Hollywood anime and manga adaptations, there is a certain amount of scepticism as to whether this latest effort will be any different – although optimists point to the possibility of seeing Kubo sulking if it fails dreadfully.

America still thinks these kinds of things are just for kids, that's why they keep on degrading quality. The majority America just cannot accept it, that cartoons too can also be a source of actual entertainment not just limited pass times for children *sign*

Bleach is a mess, there's so many dropped plot threads, ichigo severely suffers from worf effect (where he gets his ass kicked by the new big bad of each arc and then 10-40 episodes later he's managed to get enough power to kill them, frequently via deus ex machina).
It's a poorly written manga / show and the author probably never thought it would be so successful. Just like one piece, it's typical 'endless' format shounen shit, with no overarching goal (or if it has one it will never get there).
I doubt kids know who Chow Yun Fat is. I think the problem with Dragon Ball Evolution was that they geared it toward the audience at the time that was watching dragon ball on U.S. channels, teenage to young adult white male losers that seem to go for those types of movie where the loser somehow gets good at something and gets the ethnic girl. It shouldn't have taken a genious though, to know if they cast a white guy as Goku it was going to flop. Ichigo on the other hand....most of that cast has to be white, what can I say? There aren't any blonde, or red head asians. (that type of read head)
Most of Japan thinks that way about manga too...in fact, America might have a better opinion of comics/manga and cartoons/anime. If you actually watch them you'd be surpised. Even with the ones that are actually supposed to be directed at kids it's actually an industry standard to direct it at the kids AND the parents who are SUPPOSE to be watching it with them(rather than having the tv raise them). I always found it funny when I see my nieces and nephews watching fairyodd parents or something and there's a clever but messed up joke about children killing the dreams and ambitions of parents that just flys right over their head...
Just imagine the stuff Hollywood could do if they openly embrace animation and just give a few million dollars to an anime studio for making an ANIME MOVIE. If they market it right, it'd sell like hotcakes and move a ton of Bluray/DVDs.
But unfortunately, Hollywood tends to look down on animation and also push an agenda that only good/serious movies are live action ones.
Not just that! No, not just anime but all animation, Last Airbender anyone, I can't believe it became the highest grossing film of all time, the adaptation was so far off (and stupefied) that it might as well have been charged with copyright infringement, they changed bending into interpretive dancing. they'd to several crappy Tai-chi imitations before unleashing their "bending" skills
Funny thing is, even something as American as Batman is 'white washed' in Hollywood too. Characters with international or ethnic roots were cast as all white characters with actors who can't sell any of their Arabic or Mexican roots, etc. I think I heard that even the Xmen and other comic book movies have the same idea. They even bother to turn British characters into American ones for example. It's just some ridiculous agenda on Hollywood's part.
There's also the fact that the Academy Awards -- a farce in an ofitself, but one that Hollywood pays big mind to due to the whole 'hurr durr oscar, Academy Award Nominee' bullshittery -- looks down on Animation as a whole; it's widely regarded as 'childlike', or very children-esque, nevermind stuff like Watership Down or much of Pixar's movies.
So as far as corporate execs think [they don't], animation is a no-go if you want to win an ACADEMMMY AWAAARD, thus it's usually coined as extra risky, so no shareholders or investors end up touching it.
That being said, the director is at least far more promising than the Akira nobody. Get Smart was a fairly neat adaptation of the TV Show, though the TV show was leagues better.

So far, Japanese movie are still more way lot better in majority of Anime/Manga adaptation.
IMO Japanese movie are only lack of knowledge when it comes to action genre title. like doing CG, explosion, etc. just not crunchy enough.
Actually, it's not America, it's Hollywood. They're doing this because Bleach is popular and when it doesn't make money, the people behind all this can say, "well, shoot, Bleach is popular in the states so it would stand to reason that a Bleach movie would also be popular. I don't know why it bombed." It's the same reason they're making Battleship and Candyland into movies.

Even if you don't watch it. When somebody says they saw dragonball and you find that they talk about the american version, you can't help but feel bad.

A white guy being Goku was the least of the things wrong with DB evolution.
There was bad acting in general and the story was butchered.

I stand by my comment when DB evolution revealed that their Goku was white that the whole cast and everyone involved in its production should be kamehameha-ed to oblivion.

Goku in Dragonball Z is still based on the Monkey King in the Chinese myth Journey to the West who's supposed to be Chinese or at least Asian. The alien part thing is an afterthought of the Akira Toriyama, the mangaka of Dragon Ball, for a sequel to DB, namely Dragon Ball Z.
