CRIMSONS: “Japan’s Most Messed Up Manga Ever!”

Manga fans are now hailing “Crimsons,” a stirring shonen manga tale about the adventures of a young salmon, as possibly the most bizarre manga title ever to find itself published.
Naturally, there is a scene in which a female salmon is molested by a gang of shrimp…
Crimsons: The Red Navigators, by Takanori Kanno and serialised in Shonen Sunday Super, is described as a “hot-blooded ocean drama centred on the journeys of young Shintaro (salmon sp.) as he voyages out in the unknown with his comrades.”
The manga is also written under the editorial supervision of a professor of ichthyology at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, and so is supposed to be particularly accurate.
Japanese speakers can read it on Shogakukan’s official site; tragically there is as yet no official English language release.
Even amongst manga aficionados online there is incredulity that such a manga could be published:

Okay so we need a girl with long hair and big tits, long hair and small tits, short hair and big tits, short hair and small tits, and another one with long hair and REALLY big tits. Let's make at least two of them tsundere for the main male character and the others can either be indifferent or just want his dick for no apparent reason. At least one of the girls must have attended the Akane Tendou school of cooking.
Speaking of the male lead, we'll flip a coin to decide whether he's Captain Awesome-sauce or a complete loser who would never get any girls in real life. We should probably have the beach or hot springs trip with the usual jokes around episode 4 or 5. One of the girls can find the main male's porn stash around ep 6 or so when we're out of ideas and jokes and have resorted to hucking darts at pictures on the wall of our cubicles to decide which girl he ends up with.

To be fair, anime always used to have animal-centric series before. Though I suppose it's become so rare nowadays, that people actually are surprised when they come int prominence. Though I guess a fish story is definitely more strange than a tale about dogs and cats or other pedaled animals.

You know Lonesnipa, I should have clarified "that kind of shit" as in all 2D animation from Disney.
Disney endorsed cartoons represents creative censorship, i.e. support the only for children idea. NOT Pixar. Pixar very obviously rock because they at least leave in some humour for adults, and don't default to U certification.

Someone illustrating the mating habits of Salmon isn't strange or 'messed up'. Even if you exaggerate the process, it's pretty much "Eh".
It is not like it's the first manga or comic book about the life of anthro fish.
But real-life salmon don't have emotions in the human sense. These salmon are depicted with human emotions, associated with mating and human-style orgasms.
I doubt that salmon have any sophisticated neural response when they mate/fertilize/etc. I strongly doubt that salmon experience anything that could be compared to a human orgasm.

Nowhere in these statements do they note Twilight as "good or even great lterature" They were giving examples of what they see as good literature, Bleach, Naruto and Harry Potter so I have no idea why you are bringing up Twilight to begin with.
