TBH, I'm pretty numb to it now because while it used to be something special, now it's just a template. It's not "service," it's just the medium. That's why I find stuff like Touhou refreshing - because the characters are modest and not always shoving cameltoes in my face for a quick buck.

I don't watch most anime anymore, no. I'll check out anything by NisiOisiN, and some other stuff from Shaft and Production IG. Ghibli of course. Natsume Yujin-cho. Panty and Stocking was great. OreImo was pretty good. Haruhi was great in the first season.
I'll definitely watch more than I'll recommend, like Strike Witches, Macademi Wasshoi, Kampfer or Juuden Chan. But I'm not thrilled by the latest loli maid school drama of the week these days. If it's clear a show was made by going over a list of fetishes and ticking them off, chances are I'll drop it within an episode.
But that's not the issue. I'd tell non-otaku about something like Death Note. When the BDs of Nisemonogatari come out, I will watch it and I'm sure it'll be excellent - but I'll keep it to myself so coworkers don't automatically brand me as the guy who wanks to toons.

I miss the days when shit like valkyrie (insert rest of retarded title) didn't exist and people liked shonen anime and anime with actual plot (when plot didn't mean tits) like overlord (not recent and had a small amount of fanservice but nothing more than cleavage)but I have a shitty memory so that's the last one I can recall. Overlord was kinda like SAO except I didn't hate it near the end (god second season was total garbage and end of s1 pissed me off so much)
