Anime fans on 2ch have been striving to identify the anime with the most impressive production values and highest animation quality, resulting in a selection of some of the most immaculately animated scenes ever – and not a cabbage in sight.
Some of their picks:
There is of course the alternative interpretation of “amazing” production quality, more fully explored in several previous compilations.

Oh you meant BEST animation, I thought we were talking "Anime Quality" disasters e.t.c
I personally feel that it would be kind of cheating to pick movies as they technically have higher budgets and hence higher production values.
But whatever the case, the final fight between the YF-21 and X-9 would be one of my top picks.
finally someone made a fair judegement. not to mention all gundam and nanoha series have their breathtaking fight scene
How could they NOT include "Misuzu's Introduction" from AIR, which redefined the benchmark of how "hair in the wind" should be portrayed!!
Silly Silly Silly!!
omg, cant believe someone also have the same wave length as i am. that scene gave me goosebumps everytime i watched it. still is.
7 years on, I STILL listen to the music from that scene, "Natsukage" (Summer Shadows) whenever I need to be put in a "relaxed and heartwarming" mood.
Good Job Kyo-Ani, Good Job.
Is dat sum Read or Die? Fuck yeah it is.
Za pay-pah!
R.O.D. never gets old.
Most anime movies have an excellent or decent animation, against a TV series it's a bit unbalanced. Maybe a list of TV series and one of movies would be better?
Indeed, if they're not gonna differentiate between movie/OVA/TV then consequentially there shouldn't even be a single TV anime in this list... also, while the movies and OVAs in this sure have amazing animation, there are quite a few movies and OVAs that deserve a spot here even more (all of which I can't possibly list here)... what about Wings of Honneamise? Gunbuster? Eva Rebuild? Redline? etc...
Gunbuster 2 was one hell of a trip, i think it's one of the best animes i have ever seen. and redline is simply the definition of a "cool" animation movie.
not that the rest of the films you mention is any less cool.
anything aided by computers shouldn't count!
for fuck's sake. "with the help of computers" doesn't necessarily mean "made with 3D models", you can draw on a computer with a tablet just how you'd draw in real life. you can literally paint in photoshop with the right brushes.
i agree, it should be considered a different type of animation, for once and for all. as is stop motion animation a diffferent media.
That would disqualify almost all anime after ca. 2002.
Not much hand painted cell animation has been done after that year.
So only hand drawn pages manually switched to cause movement are the only things that count?
Because computers play a part in quite a few steps during animation.
"So only hand drawn pages manually switched to cause movement are the only things that count?
Because computers play a part in quite a few steps during animation."
Which is why Redline is now officially god-tier status for a topic such as this. 100% hand drawn animation taking roughly 6-7 years to complete.
Go watch it and then go see a fight scene in almost any anime, you'll be asking yourself "WHY IS NOTHING MOVING!!!" XD
It's much easier to move a camera around a scene in a 3D modelling program, than it is to draw changes in perspective over several frames.
yes but it kills that feeling traditional media has. they should start separating both medias in orde to preserve the first. i have seen good shows and movies with cgi, but they lack that speciall feeling old animes have.
@Octopi
"They lack that special feeling old animes have."
Explain? (Just wondering)
K-ON?...................seriusly?
My choise is Akira..........more than 1 hour of best animated scenes.......period.
sorry.. but i fell asleep while watching Akira.. only woke up during the last 45 minutes..
No worries here, i didn't said akira had the most apealing story, but in terms of animation, is an epic winner.
so, anyone can have diferent tastes though
K-ON is well animated. it's even been praised by Toshiyuki Inoue, one of the best anime animators out there (Youtube search his name for some of his work, the guy clearly knows his shit)
Kara No Kyoukai, Bakemonogatari, EVA(ova), Casshern Sins?
I mean cmon there is frickin dbz on there. Talk about pic unrelated.
while your list has some of my favorite animes, i have to admit they don't fir in this category that well. Kara no Kyoukai was great but i felt it was somewhat static, same goes for Bakemonogatari. Cassher sisn i don't really recall any special animation scenes.
evangelio on the other hand does have some very good animation, but it is present on the list.
And those are just "NEW" series. You apes DO have the memories of primates.
I completely agree with you. Kara No Kyoukai has some of the most breathtaking animation in existence.
Laputa: Castle in the Sky when the flaptors ride to the military compound. I've never seen anything like it. All done by hand without computers.
Nice and all... but hey..

the film The Adolescence of Utena is not on the list? He surely deserves to be on the list
Hell yes, but I'm happy because there's FLCL, FMA, MKR all favorites of mine, and there is my waif Yomiko!
But serisously I must research this Ginga Bishonen. Looks TTGL grade awesome.

Evangelion 2.22 hands down.
bathroom scene H.O.T.D?
Okay, half of those videos cannot be watched from where I live... weird, I thought I finished my vacation in China and returned to Germany, but maybe I am mistaken...?
eva 2.22 hands down?
+
Best COMPUTER GENERATED anime I'd state.. but best ANIMATED? The opening of -Pretty Cure Max Heart-, -Noein- and -READ or DIE- stands far~ FAR higher in the scales of ANIMATION than some HEAVILY CG'd sequence HANDS DOWN.
It's either gotta be Ghost in the Shell or one of the Miyazaki films. Whoever tried to join this contest with K-ON needs to be punched in the nuts.
Judging from the concept art I've seen, the award would have to go to either Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away.
ANYTHING Studio GAINAX MADE! HANDS DOWN!
coming in 2nd - Studio Gonzo
3rd - Studio Bones
(special awards also go to Anything studio Gibli Made, Akira (the LEGEND of Animation), Sword of a Stranger, and Afro Samurai)
I second this.
just goosebumbps at 2.22...
Indeed... the graphics in 1080p glory are to die for
after day long running from zombies, a glorious harem bath is indeed a WIN!!
I have to disagree - GitS Innocence was much more elaborate and used up lots of CGI to make many tiny details. Much of the secondary scenery had movement that other animu take for granted.
Why isn't 5 Centimeters per Second included?
The cinematography that was animated into that feature animu was beautiful and poignant in the very least. The detail of the littlest things was incredible for the time they had to make it.
- Just saying
^_^
@Satonaka That fluid ending scene is rare. Now several people are wondering how much it cost to make such very detailed, high-fps clip.
Yeah you wouldn't know until you (really) see it.
to Satonaka:

That OP of Sakura Taisen is not from a tv series, but was a GAME for the SEGA SATURN system and it was called -Sakura Taisen 3- or -Sakura Taisen: Ecole de Paris- where your character travels to paris to school some more hot crazy bitches again!
+
It's only on that Dead system so good luck in finding it!

Yeah this is no category for Shinkai's films.
That being said... on the other end of the spectrum... what in the blue hell is the DxD ending doing there O_o
Compared to everything else on this 'list' that ending has no place there.
Back to the good stuff: Dear god that OP to Sakura Wars ( never seen any of it, havn't gotten around yet) looks quite amazing, anyone know which series this is so I can try tracking it down? If there's more than one of course, i know jack about the show >.<
5 centimeters made almost everyone cry - it was that good.
Even the most macho anons prolly won't admit to getting teary eyed when they saw it.
@Uncommon0taku
Cause 5 centimeter per Second(which made me cry)
is in a whole nuddah league if ya ask me
Shinkai Makoto's are indeed in a whole different league.
Having watched the premier of "Hoshi o Ou Kodomo" couple of months back, I'm reminded of how amazing his films are...
i remember spriggan for it's fluid animation and high end production.
Compare Evangelion movies to episodes 25/26 to see the awesome power of budget...
if its detail then the first 2 picks of nichijou and KON are pretty high, with all the packaging
"if its detail then the first 2 picks of nichijou and KON are pretty high, with all the packaging"
Are people blind???
Those two first pics use a real photo background run through a photoshop filter. Hardly "great animation"
Are you dumb?
Animation is the MOTION of stuff, not the visuals. Stop trying to sound like you know even something about it.
For your information: backgrounds are rarely colored with paint nowadays, they're ALL Photoshop.
And another pro-tip: Kyoto Animation is godly at animating, whether the story-line is your cup of tea is a total different matter.
Very good. But Patlabor 2 intro is even better :)
