Indeed I was greatly disappointed when Sankaku failed to report on episode 2, Madoka is sexy even when she's not taking steamy showers and Ran is 24/7 pantyshot, Strike Witches style. Besides the generic mecha design it has the lovely Mamiko Noto playing off-type and plenty yuri teasing for me to watch, although Madoka herself is enough reason to follow this show.

Same here. This season sure is full of anime with tiny yuri bits, thanks to Symphogear, Space Pirates, Lagrange, Black★Rock Shooter, Tantei Opera Milky Holmes II, and possibly Kill Me Baby. I cannot wait for Black★Rock Shooter!
I kind of disappointed that SanCom has not made reviews of Symphogear, especially its 2nd episode that has a steamy, sexy bath scene. Hopefully, this site will not mind making some impressions of this anime.

So is the story any good? The mech designs are hideous though.
Too soon to tell. There is apparently a big conspiracy going and it's obvious they are setting up a big twist, although obvious set ups betray the purpose of twists.
What is new and interesting is the whole cast is pretty relaxed and sympathetic for a militar mecha show. It's like a less wacky, more militaristic TTGL with (non-threatening) love replacing manliness as secondary theme.
However it's been 3 episodes already and not much has happened besides fighting. While it will probably get much more dramatic sooner than later, I don't expect the incoming twist to be interesting by itself, but the tension it will cause in the girls is what matters.
This is a character based plot.

When I saw the preview I thought it was going to be a slice of life, I was disappoint.
If the enemies are alive then I guess there could be some life slicing.
