I could see it if the time frame was not so vague. That video cam is '72-'76 but the car in the OP and the talk of CG places it in the 2000's. I am looking forward to more of this series either way since I loved Onegai Teacher.
Except the definition of what the girl is looking for is a good description of where Mizuho landed. Just because they made an original story does not mean that it is unrelated to the previous one. It just means that it was not a previously released story (light novel, manga) and written just for TV (in this case an anime series)

Mizuho told Kei her parents met in the year 2008 or, I believe, shortly after her would-be father went missing during a manned mission to the planet Mars.
So Mizuho was probably born around 2010 or 2011. And she seemed to be at least 22-23 years old when she met Kei.
If this does take place after the events of 'Please Teacher' then it would be what year? 2050? :P
Could be that she's Mizuho's cousin.
Think about it, her favourite cousin, who is like her role model and idol, disappears all of a sudden, and the rest of the family is all hush hush about what's going on.

It would be even more amusing if Lemon actually is Ichigo from the original series having never aged physically, and gone back to the school with a new name every few years. She's even got the different uniform that looks suspiciously close to the old one from Onegai Teacher. She commented on her script having been in the works for 20 years as well. I think it would be absolutely hilarious if Ichika was a relative of Kei and Mizuho, and Lemon cornered her and started asking about how her parents are doing off in space.
Wild Mass Guessing would lead us to that conclusion, as when asked her age, Lemon replied "Forever 17!"...so it might be her.
It's almost a given that Ichika COULD be Kei and Mizuho Kusanagi's daughter or even her cousin.
