The K-ON! Movie has been awarded an Academy Award – if only Japan’s knock-off domestic version, although this is still being hailed as quite the accomplishment.
The 35th annual Japan Academy Prize (in Japanese both the real Academy Awards and the Japanese clone share the same name, but the official English naming cheekily avoids the issue) ceremonies granted the K-ON! movie an award for Excellence in Animation, the most prestigious prize any moeblob anime is ever likely to get.
The award of an “Academy Prize” is probably amongst the least of the real distinctions the movie has earned – the film grossed almost 15 million dollars (1.14 billion yen) in its first month, being seen by over a million people (or possibly a much lower number considering the propensity of otaku to make multiple visits), all quite unheard of for a late night anime.

Went to Tokyo in dec and watched the movie~ while not an epic movie. I think it does quite accurately depict the language barrier ppl from Japan have when they go overseas. XD while being moe all the same. Only gripe I have is that they took a very long time to get to the point of deciding where to go and getting to the airport...but they managed to squeeze out a lot of MemOrablE scenes from it. If u watch it in Japan, they give you a post card with the movie's unique song lyrics on one side, and a space on the other to stamp it with a HTT stamp outside the cinema.
For k-on and moe lovers, this movie is a must watch~<3
K-ON BANZAI~!!! >.<
KYOANI BANZAI!!!
LOL XD
Hell YEAH!!!
Movie was a Moe masterpiece. Well deserve
Mio nominated for Waifu of the Year Award!!
^_^
^_^
^_^
K-ON BUHIII!!!!
indeed its bad.
Fuck yeah go K-on!
I'm the only one thinking that the anime is a waste of time right?
Nope, I think it was a waste of time too, so there is still hope for humanity.
This makes me so happy. K-on! beat out a Ghibli film and a movie about Buddha. Moe is your god now.
No, the Ghibli film and the Buddha movie all got the same "award" as K-ON! (really just a nomination). The real award is handed out on March 2nd.
Yeah I know that now. This article misled me.
Well, as much as I find K-On boring it's nice to see Ghibli suffer after their betrayal.
oh it didn't...
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
Well they're working on private space flight in the US and UK maybe you can move to the moon.
The in-flight movie will be K-On!
@13:14
The us and the UK don't offer private space flights. Russia has almost total monopoly.
lol in-flight movie, nice one :D
AHAHAHAHAHAHA
Great job. By the time they get to the moon they wouldn't know the difference between death and decompression.
Kill yourself and granted.
And rage was had... by all sorts of western otaku losers who haven't even seen the movie and don't know shit about it other than the fact that it's a K-On movie.
i think this is similar to twilight winning a oscar.
Get the fuck out.
Best comparison of the year. I'd vote for you 140% if you were in russia :D
So very true!
Well I just re watched the series - just wait till its released in the barbaric USA. So the rest of us can see it.
And then the barbaric Amerikan Voice Actors will fuckit all up just like they did with the Amerikanized version.
More like Seinfeld.
that alone should tell you it's nothing but moeblob cute girls doing cute things ecks deee kind of anime
Type A otaku can be very annoying at times.
Agreed. Watching the anime industry fall short every year because 90% of the shows released now aren't stimulating anything other than my penis, is quite disheartening.
The majority of Type A have moved on from anime anyway. These are just the few still hoping until they finally realize that the anime they like isn't coming back and they move on to better things.
Well, of course they are. Don't get me wrong, I love plotty anime as well but it's just that I can't help but seeing these complaining Type A otaku as equivalent to religious activist. Most of the time, the only thing they do is ranting about loosing faith on the world just because, well, everything they see doesn't meet their perfect expectation.
"Sleeveless shirt? No, you shouldn't wear it! You'll turn every man on earth into rapist! You watch porn? Repent my son, or you'll be burn in hell! Videogames? Isn't that the thing that have turn every youth nowadays into juveniles with crime record? We should burn them all, they're destroying the morality among youngsters nowadays!"
Type B otaku can be very annoying at all times.
Type A Anime fans move on because Type B "Anime fans" just like to see money used up on extending really stupid titles rather then pouring it unto something with actual potential.
Since Type B are the majority, there's nothing else to do but to stay and fight the good but pointless battle or move on.
Cute girls doing cute things cutely is great.
K-ON on the other hand...
surely its a deep moving experience of much character discovery and a life lesson to be applicable to us all.
Is everyday life not applicable to us all? Life isn't really a soap opera, you know?
I would rage, but I don't know what they were competing against.
I hate K-On manga, movies and anime equally
you haven't seen the movie or read the manga, have you? One, two episodes of anime then back to your testosterone filled shounen titles or your BL?
I'm 17:34 but I'd thumb you up for your honesty if I wasn't too lazy to sign in... Though I love k-on and hate fantasy (medieval fantasy, anyway. I like future/space fantasy or modern fantasy or even prehistoric fantasy as long as it's not the same rip off of lotr like every medieval fantasy seems to be)
Is more simple than that, I like fantasy themed animes (shounen, shoujos, seinens or whatever), so K-On doesn't enter in my range. And when you don't like something but you are forced to see/hear/eat it every day you start to hate It
Congrats K-ON! I am so proud.
I want to watch the movie.
I wanna watch the movie too so badly.
To all you K-On! haters, why don't you stop making childish rants about this movie and watch it yourself?
Yeah, his right.
says the guy with an kratos avi...
whatever the movie is about it sucks cuz of one reason:
MOE!
cuz of this weird hype i tried to watch it too (like: hey maybe it really IS a good anime)
but as expected moe bullshit is nothing more than that.
no real story, cheap dialogue, cheap character creation etc.
Didn't like? Dohoho, get out and take your shitty tastes with you.
So K-On! sucks because it's moe? Pretty lame analyzation of the anime my friend. It's a slice-of-life anime. Lucky Star was like K-On! yet you guys don't criticize it?
It's a slice-of-life anime, so that was expected. Not your genre ? Shoo. Go back and fap with your mecha and manly man and girls already.
didnt like lucky star either.
at least, lucky star was fun, at times.
I admit that it makes me vaguely curious about that movie, though
