China’s latest boast is a 30 floor hotel built in only 15 days and supposedly able to withstand “magnitude 9” earthquakes.
The builders boast that they erected the 30-storey, 183,000 square foot hotel on a pristine Hunan province site in only 15 days, using prefabricated parts.
As if this were not enough, they claim the building is “5 times” more resistant to earthquakes than “conventional” buildings and can withstand “magnitude 9” quakes – as certified by the China Academy of Building Research.
Unfortunately, with this being a made in China project only the most gullible believe their claims – most seem convinced the building is going to meet the same fate as so much China-quality architecture:
“How much money did they pay them to write that article? There’s no way they finished this in 15 days.”
“With the internal fittings as well, these claims are ridiculous.”
“With the stuff about earthquake resistance, you just know it’s 100% false.”
“It can surely resist a 9.0 as long as one does not occur.”
“It’s a misprint – they meant 0.9.”
“They couldn’t even finish proper foundations in that amount of time.”
“Even making skyscrapers out of prefabs now are we, China?”
“The concrete wouldn’t even set properly in that time.”
“It’s probably another building made of styrofoam.”
“It’ll be slanting in under a year, for sure.”
“Honestly, who’d believe their lies about it being safe.”
“They don’t even know what magnitude means.”
“Just looking at the pictures of the foundations they gave rather sheds doubt on being built on level ground, let alone their other claims.”
“If it falls down, they’ll just bury it – like their trains.”
“Expect them to bury you along with it when it falls over.”
“They say not a single worker was injured making it – doubtless they sacked them the instant they got injured.”
“I’m reminded of those photographs of made in China apartments which just broke off at the foundations and fell over intact.”
“I recalled that luxury passenger ship which sunk on launch.”
“I wouldn’t live in it for free.”
“I don’t see how a 15 day building time is something you’d want to advertise to customers…”
“Well, with prefabs it is quite possible to do this with 1-2 storeys. But is it possible with 30?”
“The building is just for paper investing, it doesn’t need electrics or plumbing or anything like that.”
“Live fast, take the money and run before the bubble bursts!”

“Forget earthquakes, this’ll fall over in a high wind.”

its not impossible. Its just that we’re so used to the SLOW pace in the western world
Made of Garbage no doubt. Really China, If you want to look for attention you got it. Now stop being a spoilt child and build something safe. Christ even my mouse is breaking apart and it says made in China…
On the Richter scale, an earthquake on the richter scale has an exponential increase for each level it rises. Which means that the difference between them is far greater than just a single level. At magnitude 9, you are at widespread devastation level (Several thousand KM). it would be unfeasible to make ANY building EQ proof at Magnitude 9 because no building material in the world can create that strong of a foundation for a 30 story building.
Also, they said magnitude 9, the strongest possible EQ category in the world (10 has never been met before).
i give it a 74 weeks
while the quality is suspect, the idea is quite interesting.
