Anyone wondering why it is the hordes of creepy otaku photographers swarming about cosplayers every Comiket tend to have such large and expensive cameras need look no further than these images from the recent C81 – it would seem they are capable of photographing their hapless subjects in very great detail indeed…

    Though you gotta wonder...

There are no real restrictions for the 'goddesses', but I thought Comiket management no longer allowed such revealing costumes at their events?

And there they were dressing in bikinis, during winter no less.

It could also be that the organizers were forced to implement such rule but they don't really monitor or enforce it... And looking at the pics I'd say I'm propably right.

Like anything that can be illegal in Japan, they find ways to circumvent it. I think they can reveal anything that is not technically underwear, but it could be a 'swimsuit'.

Circumventing technicalities is a Japanese tradition!

"Now You Know Why Otaku Always Have Such Big Cameras…"

So we can see just how cold these poor girls are?

I swear, one of these years, I'm totally going to winter comiket just so I can try pick up lines about 'warming up' on scantily-clad cosplay girls.

On a scale of Zero to Ten (Zero being 'deported', and Ten being 'harem ending') how far do you think a charming and funny gaijin photographer would get like that? w

As a guy, I still feel disgusted over the intrusiveness of these photos. I like cosplay - A LOT, to the point that I would indeed call it a fetish. But I think this really takes it a step too far and intrudes on them and common decency. I would have to agree with the group that you claim is all women, and say that this is truly objectifying these girls. Maybe that's just protocol in Japan for cosplayers, and as an American I don't understand, but these photos would get you kicked out of any convention here in the US.

Well, I went to ColossalCon 10 this year, the cosplayers were begging to get their photos taken, unfortunately im too poor to have a neat camera, i only had my 20$ verizon phone, but every pic i tried to take, the cosplayers couldnt help but bust a pose, you havent been to enough cons, or any good ones. there werent many trying to get crotch-shots, but those that were, were looked upon as cute little children, so the cosplayers didnt think anything of it.

NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THESE ARE ANGLE PICTURES. Just nice camera with good objective and using program to zoom. The girl's objective themselfs, if you want to talk about it. I think it's just nerds having fun. If you go to con, what is so bad about taking pictures of cosplayers? That is what they dress up for.

This is a small handful of otaku doing stuff like this. Hell, with the small amount of pics here it might just be one really creepy one. Most western guys know better than to cross this line out of decency, and most Japanese guys don't have any decency but are too afraid of women to do this.

And people didn't find it peculiar when the guy taking the photos is practically lying underneath the girl to get the best crotch shot? Happens every time on any con on this planet. And we all know it. I don't really see anything surprising here. It's one of the reasons why fans have a bad rep.

'most of them don't want creepy otaku zooming in to their crotches. '

    See, here's the problem:

Girls want to be looked at.

Girls want girls to look at them.
Girls want most guys to look at them.

But when some of the guys look a bit too closely, most of the girls say, "Creepy!"

And if all the guys go away, the girls strip naked and scream, "Pay attention to me."

    Comment by Anonymous

That doesn't doesn't mean they want someone to zoom into one part of their bodies as opposed to admiring them as a whole. I agree about the attention part for these girls, but there is a line. Leave it to creepy otaku to cross it.

Treating women like objects? Oh please. Beta women are just being jelly. How come women have a holier than thou, fully justifiable defense mechanism like "objectification of women" when they are jealous of other women but when a beta male is jealous of another man, he's nothing but a loser?

Women "objectify" men all the time in real life. It's just that most men don't feel the need to talk about it like the way they don't like talking about most of life's problems. Your reliance on mainstream media talking heads has blinded you and you are not even able to make everyday observations on your own?

Achiuakuna, you're so blinded by bitterness that you didn't actually provide a defense. All you did was give the tired, "WAH! But women do it too!" offense.

I agree that both sides are objectified and objectify. That doesn't mean that things like this are okay.

    Comment by Anonymous
    05:26 07/01/2012 # ! Neutral (+0.4)

It's usually men who tell other men that women would get jealous over this sort of thing, while with most women jealousy never enters the equation.

The reason why women get so disappointed over things like this is because it's disappointing to see how a lot of men view us. Just a set of body parts or as sex objects and not people.

No one has a problem with men admiring women's bodies. But when you take away the whole person and just start focusing on tits and vaginas, that's where the problem is.

    Comment by Anonymous
    02:22 25/01/2012 # ! Neutral (0)

I agree you should treat women with respect and they should do the same. Its better to think that everyone is different and can have there own ups and downs but you have to learn them by talking to them. or something like that.

feedback is good but know when to back off or say it in a way they wont get to mad.

im not Asian btw but i still think like one because learning is the key.

This is a reply to all!

    Comment by Anonymous

Because we (most) men think women are the most beautiful beings in the world, want to see them nude all the time, fuck them all the time without making a commitment so they think they're closest to whatever all powerful being they believe in since women like cuddling and having relationships that don't involve making their pussies feel weird all the time. Also all the issues women have with their bodies and how we men don't want to be anywhere near it (bitch time of the month, fishy smell, any type of excrement).

How is admiring girls' costume/body equals to treating them like objects? It's because of people like you that we have stupid censoring laws.

There is nothing bad about even zooming in to their crotches. Embarrassing - maybe, bad - no. And the cosplayers themselves know it.

    05:12 07/01/2012 # ! Good (+0.6)

No, YOU are the reason there are censoring laws. If you really think there is nothing about bad zooming in to intimate body parts without treating the women as a whole person just because you want a to get off, there is a huge problem.

Treating the woman as a whole? So we have to get to know each and every cosplayer to fully understand them. I agree with both of your points, but neither of you are the reasons for censorship laws. Cosplayers dress up to make themselves the character they want (or just get paid to do it). They go to these places to have others look at them. Whether it's to show off how great their costume looks or for the personal feeling of being "in character". Either way, they put themselves out there, whether revealing or covered head to toe in heavy clothing, to be looked at. It's completely absurd to think that if a guy was wearing a speedo that not a single person would stare at his junk. I'm sure both men and women would look at him as a whole and completely avoid the speedo. It's not "objectifying" if all you are doing is taking pictures of a female or male body, who is on display to allow you to take pictures. Face, ass, toes, whatever. It's the female form and it is beautiful. I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem if somebody went around and took pictures of just the left eye of each cosplayer. Then it would be "artistic".
