Katawa Shoujo, the “4chan developed” English language visual novel so long in production, has finally been released after a mere 5 years of development, much to the delight of cripple fanciers the world over.
Four Leaf Studios describe the game’s storyline succinctly enough themselves:
Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located in modern Japan.
Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends — and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right.
There are five main paths corresponding to the 5 main female characters, each path following the storyline pertaining to that character. The story is told through the perspective of the main character, using a first person narrative. The game uses a traditional text and sprite-based visual novel model with an ADV text box.
As might be expected, online there is some astonishment that anything good has come out of 4chan, let alone a complete game – although the fact that the game revolves around seducing maimed schoolgirls rather makes up for this.

Some of her issues lend themselves to thinking that she might have some minor inner ear problems and/or high functioning variety of autism.
how can inner ear problems be a disability. there are exercises to fix that stuff.
certainly, you don't need to go to a school for disabled kids even if you did have permanent inner ear problems.
Misha's disability has never been disclosed, but it is likely to be an inner ear problem.
She's stated she has some problems with balance, vertigo and motion sickness (all of which can pertain to the ear), we *know* she has problems with her volume control and that she knows sign language (and possibly the ability to read lips).
All of those things *can* be attributed to a damaged inner ear, while it hasn't been disclosed in game to my knowledge, it is a very likely culprit.

Its awesome, been playing ti for 11 h last night, and i can tell you rin path is the most rewarding but the most painfull.
I'm glad for them as well. Probably not my cup of tea as a game, but that's a good effort. Any fanbase that can turn out a game kind of shows how dedicated they can be. I'm slightly turned off by the disability-theme of it all, then again, I'm turned off by certain themes of something and liking the story.
I wouldn't really call it a theme. It's more like the disabilities are there to lend themselves to the story telling rather than as fetish fuel. The game seems to be fairly light on the ero side anyways, at least the Shizune/Misha route only has two full ero scenes, and one with just erotic text.

Ah finally the long wait is over....never give the demo a try, wanted the full version and I guess my faith finally pays off.
They did not dissapoint. I remember playing the first release and even then I thought they were doing an excellent job. Great to see they finished this ( and that the project didn't just fall apart)

She had a different sprite in the initial Act 1 demo release years ago, and it made her look more loli-ish, but they scrapped it for some reason.

I played the first part and found it quite heartwarming, not tears heavy at all. I'm confident the whole game will follow the same line, so I suggest you give it a try.

All have at least one good and one bad ending.
The bad endings are bad(or sometimes just neutral), the good endings all end with Hisao getting together with someone, but how it goes further is mystery.
