I don't quite get the attraction to ahoge, yet lots of girls I love have them.

I have never thought of her as having one.
It's not a "lock" of hair at all - it's just a stray wisp from her ponytail, so I don't see at all how that counts as ahoge.
lists are mostly subjective.
New to anime so dont know most of them but the ones i like are
1. Ikaros - sora no otoshimono
2. Moka - rosario to vampire
3. Lala - to love ru

Shana always was strange to me. The first few episodes I felt emotions toward the concept I hadn't ever felt before. I was totally drawn in to the complete lack of information he had with this world of spirits he knew nothing about and his fate being nonchalantly addressed as some kind of 'shit happens' scenario, and then how he just followed her around because he knew of nothing else from that world. Oddly enough, the thing to most ruin it for me was the battles and the villains. I was actually more interested in Shana being around him and them just interacting than any of the battles at all, because they felt so out of place compared so such a potentially cerebral and dramatic premise.
I'm not much of a fan of the Book of Friends anime, but the atmosphere of it was pretty good, and would fit more with this concept. Honestly I think Shana may have been stronger if it tried to be more of a drama and the battles were more than just powerful blasts of fire all the time. At least limiting it so that her powers were more mysterious than they were. Granted though, I haven't seen more than the first season. Apparently the second season I am told there is more interaction between them, but people didn't seem to like that or something.
Oh well. Doesn't matter anyway, I could listen to Kugamiya Rie all day every day.

That doesn't change the fact that Shana's popularity faded long ago, and now not even Japan care about her much.
The sales are already looking horrible, and the budget for the 3rd season is really low.
I guess we can be grateful to JC Staff they even bothered giving us the final season.
