A road accident involving 24 cars, including 8 Ferraris, a Lamborghini and 3 Benzes, has been hailed as one of the most spectacularly expensive road accidents in Japan’s history.

The accident unfolded over a 400m stretch of Yamaguchi prefecture highway, mildly curving and slightly inclined, as a Ferrari lost control and collided with the median, causing further collisions in the group of vehicles following.

Several of the cars avoided collision by swift braking, but the accident sent almost caused disaster even in the opposite lane – one driver travelling in the opposite direction narrowly avoided a serious accident

“One of the Ferraris spun out of control and the other cars all successively smashed into each other whilst they were trying to avoid it. The crash sent debris flying with such force that my windscreen was cracked.”

10 people were hospitalised as a result of the crash, all with light injuries.

Of the 24 vehicles involved, at least 8 Ferraris, 1 Lamborghini and 3 Mercedes Benz vehicles were involved in the crash, with a total of 6 vehicles being completely destroyed.

The cars were supposedly driving together on their way to a club lunch for members of a automobile fanciers’ club.

As might be imagined, attention has focused on what speeds they were travelling at – according to one witness “the cars were travelling at 140-160kph (87-100mph).”

The highway remained closed for some time after the accident.

No wonder no one is having children. The only guys who can afford housewives are off being reckless instead.

?! I don't understand, why would they hand over control? if he is the one earning it he gets control of it. that's unless he's rubbish with his finances.

That's not what Anon 14:10 asked. Japan or not, if you earn the money, YOU have control over them, and the fact the you let your wife spent most of them, means you are willing to let her.

If she doesn't want to be with you because you don't give her 80% of your income, means she can go fuck herself, that's a very reasonable point of view I think. And moreover, guys with such money usually don't have porblems getting pussy even if they are not in long-term relationship.

is this a joke I am not getting?

because Eastern Asian countries generally discourage sexual relations unlike the western world. especially in China and japan where the government and public moral respectively enforces this type of ethos.

It's a joke I suppose. About Japan having low birth rate, and the rich ones are going around crashing their cars instead of getting housewives with hard cold cash.

Because, you know, woman and the financial control for the family and such. Stereotypes.

    Comment by Anonymous

Do they still count as "Stereotypes" when there is hard evidence proving they are true?

    Comment by Anonymous

Stereotypes are usually true. Well, not for all the people the stereotype refers to, but for example there is a stereotype that Americans are all racist. Not all Americans, but they are there.

So? Gyzome only implied that in Germany people drive much faster and dont just crash... 160km/h in a Ferrari, or Merc for that matter is nothing special, the cars should be safe and have a reliable behaviour at that speed. These guys who crashed must have ridiculous (literally) driving skills.

Why would it be bad? If the drivers can't prove that they weren't speeding, then they won't get any insurance from the insurance companies. It's hard to disprove police findings, since the cpu records these data for police and for the mechanics to look at.

If they can prove that they weren't at fault, then yes I do agree with you that it would be a bad day for the insurance companies.

do you even know how insurance works or are you just plain stupid ? there are 2 types of insurance, only one is obligatory by law. The one that pays for damage you cause in an accident to the other person's car. The other type that is not required by law is for your own car and it pays for your car in case of accident not in case of accident that you where not at fault. The only exception can be if you intentionally cause the accident and optionally lie about it but that is actually a criminal offense and it's another story. So basically the blame will fall on one guy whose insurance company will pay for everybody else's cars and WILL if he has a no-fault personal car insurance get payed for his own car. Although future payments will be much larger now that he has caused and accident...

    Ah, actually,

It depends on the fine print of the insurer. In the following article,

    http://carinsurancecomparison.com.au/what-you-need-to-know-about-comprehensive-car-insurance/

It states that, 'You will also not be covered for claims occurring when you are driving recklessly.'

Best not to call people stupid unless you REALLY know what you're talking about (like Richard Dawkins).

I think it's completely unreasonable to call the people above stupid. It depends on which system of law they use in Japan.

For example, fault (tort) or no-fault? In many countries, driving recklessly will cancel your insurance claim.

No-fault (which protects reckless drivers) is popular in many US states where insurance companies rule over the poor victims of reckless drivers. But I don't think most other developed countries are stupid enough to allow its implementation.

Anyone know how it works in Japan?

I looked it up with a Japanese insurance company.

Looks like Japan has the fault tort therefore, drivers are responsible for their driving. Unlike no-fault, drivers in Japan may not be covered for reckless driving and can be sued in court for damages.

08:24 Anon's comments are only accurate in a number of US states and he shouldn't presume that all places of the world are as stupid as the place he comes from.

    Dear Sirs/Madams,
You may not know that most highways in Japan are privately owned and therefore not subject to the legal speed limits of public roads. They tend to operate a tolled entrance and exit, so in essence you are renting private land to drive across when you use them. Any speed signs posted on such roads are merely serving suggestions. So the question of whether or not they were speeding may be somewhat moot as they were doing so on private land!

I can't say for over there, but in general insurance companies raise your rate if you have an accident, whether the accident is your fault or not. They probably are having a party at this very moment for being richer than they were, especially considering that the insurance prices for such vehicles already isn't cheap to begin with, they will all pay even more now.
