Chinese pondering the differences in national character supposedly reflected in the school buses of Japan and the USA need look no further than their own “buses” for some rather painful introspection…
These pictures show a recent accident involving a school bus which collided with a coal truck, resulting in 20 deaths, 18 of which were kindergarteners.
The accident’s severity was exacerbated by the fact that 64 passengers were riding a bus intended to carry only 9, a practice local officials were aware of but chose to ignore.
The final picture shows how to upgrade a bus rated for 7 children into one for carrying 32, China style – simply tear out all the seats:

This is one of the most saddest things I have read (then again, school bus accidents are pretty damn sad compared to regular car accidents for me)...
There is no excuse for shoving all those children in those poorly modded vehicles like cattle waiting to be brought and slaughtered in a meat factory(or sardines in a can), and it is just tempting fate to pull a nasty one on them...
The bloody officials who were aware, but chose to ignore this could have prevented the deaths of those 18 children if they would not allow these 'buses' (or whatever sh*t vehicle they mod) into the streets...

Ah well...At least the bus did not explode and killed the other surviving children upon impact...

Well, because of the one-child-policy in China the population is believed to stop growing and even start decreasing in future years(if it hasn't already).
It's actually India that has much bigger problem now, it's already believed that India actually has bigger population than China and because of strong religious beliefs things like the china's one-child-policy is unlikely to success in India.

Actually, it IS fun to sneer at the Chinese and the misfortune of the poor, because CHINA THE COUNTRY has an undeserved ego larger than all the others around the world put together, and seeing it deflated even a little is very satisfying.
Yes, I would even say China is more arrogant than the United States, because China has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO EARN THAT ARROGANCE except be BIG. Whereas the United States (all hyperbole aside) has been the shining beacon of Freedom and Liberty for over 100 years taking in millions of poor immigrants, improving their lives and education, and winning TWO worldwide wars against fascism (maybe even three if you consider the Cold War). Sure the beacon's rather tarnished now but that's still a FAR better historical record in the last 100 than China's last 2000 years.
So the constant stream of Chinese egotism and invective against all things Western like safety, democracy, freedom, wealth, etc is HILARIOUSLY hypocritical when they treat their citizens, their land, food and infrastructure like disposable tissues, despite having essentially robbed the West of trillions of dollars by exploiting these elements in their own country.
What goes around comes around, but my fear is that there are far too many disposable, easily-replaced Chinese for China The Country to ever learn this.
Maybe we'll see in 15-20 years when One-Child + Killing-off-baby-girls-at-birth-because-we-wanted-a-boy-to-take-care-of-the-family hits breeding and marrying age. This is already an acknowledged problem in India, where the sex ratio disparity (male to female)is something like 8% already. In a normal healthy, natural population it's always within 0.2-0.3 (49.7-50% each)%. China's estimate is something like 4-5% for ages 1-25.

-- It's not about the "misfortune of the poor". In my opinion people here are weary of how the Chinese government are so full of sh** on their propaganda about how rich their economy is and how powerful their military is yet they can't take care of the welfare/safety of its own people. A lot of "poorer" neighboring countries treat their people well healthcare-wise and public safety-wise. Mainland China is growing rich very fast but at the expense of the lives of its ordinary citizens which is very stupid. Public safety is F*cki** common sense.

It's the wholesale corruption that does it - the poisoning of air, land, water, food, the endemic untrustworthiness of the society that proves what a failure China is.
You can be 99.9999% sure a piece of fried chicken in the United States or Japan won't KILL YOU, or be made with.. who knows, dog feces? In China that's clearly a much lower percentage. Likewise you can be 99.999% certain your home or a bridge won't fall down immediately after you take possession because the engineers who designed it and the contractors who built it were held personally responsible for it. How about China?
Some time ago, most western societies EVOLVED to a point where endemic, blatant corruption became unacceptable. We realized it HARMED us and HINDERED us, and therefore it is punished. China seems to think it is socially-acceptable, often even encouraged because it promotes ADVANCEMENT and because there is basically no accountability for anything. For every Chinese corruption show trial where a minor Party hack gets executed there are twenty more doing worse because they know they will get away with it and noone is ever personally responsible BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY, they only do it out of FEAR.
FEAR and GREED have always been the only honest motivations of Communism.

The point is that China is now supposed to be top level developed country. Yet, they have literally no standards of living, other top developed countries are known for.
