Ranma 1/2 fans have been presented with a post juxtaposing the classic manga with the new movie adaptation, and for some reason they like it not one bit.
Panda is coming in for particular criticism, looking rather moth-eaten as he does:
OMG....so those racists took out Shampoo, even though China itself is a rather important part of the story. Does this thing even have Ryoga? I think I recognized one of those guys as Kuno-senpai, but I have no idea what's up with the Japanese Urkel or the creep holding a skeleton.
The guy producing this needs to be shot in the knees.
This looks like it is a adaption of one of the movies. so if Ryoga an Shampoo was left out of that movie then they will be left out of the live-adaption too.
And the creepy guy with the skeleton is the doctor that Akane had a crush on.
I have no clue who the "Japanese Urkel" you are talking about is, but you have the whole Tendo family there, Genma, Kuno and Ranma.
It could be racism, but maybe not. It's a movie, not a series, so there's only so much ground they can cover before it becomes too rushed. (Granted, I don't have high expectations for the adaption regardless, but still...)
I think you can tell from my screen name that I probably would have died from excitement if they announced an anime movie on a Takahashi Rumiko classic...
Tasteless is the right word... I mean there were some jokes in the live-version that were rather hilarious considering Ranma's gender-curse... Like for instance the vice-principal principal being a homosexual that wanted to turn all women into men, but that was the only positive thing I can say about it.
The cast is generally misscasted and many jokes that could have been far more fun if they had been treated seriously, were instead treated oddly. Liek for instance Genma's curse shoudl have been done using a mixture of CG and phootage of a real panda...
Then the cast all look too old -- even if they are 18 in this movie they all look like they are in their mid-twenties.
Tatewaki is WAAAY to short and the female Ranma is WAAAY to tall and her boobs to small. Sad really seeing as there actually exist Japanese actors that are both younger, shorter, have larger breasts and that LOOK more like female Ranma than the one they picked.
Heck given the fact that almost everyone in the movie sucked at acting (as usual with Japanese) they could have even hired models since the movie wouldn't have suffered from it. After all, if the acting itself is a non-issue, then you should and can go for the people that LOOK the part the most. Heck, they could have recruited highscool kids and have them play the parts!
I thought the Nodame Cantabile live-action version was incredibly well done. I need to get around to finding the later episodes and finishing it since only the first 6 were available at the time I checked it out.
Ditto; there's also Absolute Boyfriend which took a stupid manga story with forgettable characters (I was so disappoint at Watase for how she handled it) and turned into something fun and cute, if not sometimes silly (but it never took itself too seriously). I don't know, I liked it a lot since they improve the original by 10x.
tl;dr not every live action out there is a piece of junk (Hana Yori Dango is a nice one too) and sometimes they can be better. I say give it a try.
He bitches about it all the time but we see him abusing the privilege every five seconds. There's some insight into his twisted personality when Mousse and Akane catch Ranma saying out loud to himself that "every woman must love him". The man is a whiny asshat.
This happens within Ranma's universe, where changing sex is as easy as 1-2-3. Thinking about how hurtful would be to "turn your penis inside out" means you're already diverting from what this conversation is all about (which is nothing to be taken seriously anyways)
No, just no.
Imagine being raised to be a man among manly men by your father, never having school, never having the"talk, a 10 year road trip, and getting engaged to a random girl and all having no choice. So You might be pretty fucked in the head too if you went through all that bullshit, not to mention his code of honor.
not tragedy nor farce, just utterly tasteless.
...they haven't learn the lesson taught by previously aired live-action anime adaptation...
...it just DON'T WORK!!!

I won't watch it if it doesn't have Ryouga.
Wasnt the whole story revolves around the springs in "China"
Nobody will watch it if Ryouga gets taken out!
This looks like it is a adaption of one of the movies. so if Ryoga an Shampoo was left out of that movie then they will be left out of the live-adaption too.

Shouldn't they just make an anime movie just like the Nanoha movie?
I think a live-action adaptation can work, but it can't be some low-budget piece of crap.
Sadly, except for anime, the Japanese movie industry is nothing but low-budget pieces of crap.
They should.
I think you can tell from my screen name that I probably would have died from excitement if they announced an anime movie on a Takahashi Rumiko classic...
I would have died of sadness....
i'm all in for all japanese manga , anime , videogame etc .
but i don't watch jap movies its just so terrible .
It can work.
They just have adhere to what Ranma truly is - A gag series.
If they try to make it a "good" movie, with serious drama/romance/action - It all goes to hell.
It occasionally works. I kind of enjoyed the Initial D movie. I think it has to be more grounded in reality than Ranma 1/2 to work though, definitely.

Space Battleship Yamato was great too

The costume from "Never say no to Panda" commercials is better than that.
Just you know why...
Just you know why....
lol thx :$
The guy in the mask looks like Ishihara?
Wait... That wasn't a real panda? IMPOSSIBLE!!
You do know that that "costume" is actually just CG, right?
I never got why Ranma was so unhappy being turned into a beautiful woman. Having unlimited access to girl parts would be epic winning.
Because when you're a girl you don't give a shit about having girl parts.
Objection! A narcissist lesbian would care!
cuz he cant bang his girl self with his own penis... although he's come close.
never say no to panda
I KNOW, you think he'd get used to it after changing back and forth every 5 minutes.
He did exploited it until he feel bore.
He bitches about it all the time but we see him abusing the privilege every five seconds. There's some insight into his twisted personality when Mousse and Akane catch Ranma saying out loud to himself that "every woman must love him". The man is a whiny asshat.
Instant pussy
Instruction: Pour cold water on it and enjoy the meal
Except you lose your penis.
Another one just got raped!
The fuck?
Pedobear said "Hey! Its my cousin PEDOPANDA!"
By the way, the Panda is Ranma's father.
Oh dear.....my girlfriend was already disappointed with the live action Yattaman. This is just plain gonna crush her.
He prolly hates being hit on all the time lol!
Anyway, I can't believe they're gonna release a shoddy live-action before releasing a remake of the anime! That would be way better!!
It's because his mom wanted him to become a man, and if his father failed in that, all three of them were to commit suicide together.
You would be unhappy too if you had Kuno-kun to deal with every time you randomly got splashed with cold water.
and your mom has to kill you.
If he like it then there would be no story.
Because he would have to commit harakiri along with his father if his mom found out?
derped.
You try inverting your penis. You'd be unhappy too.
It's not like he can't revert it back ;)

@17:58
Too... much... IRL!!! Must... visit... 4ch!!!
Cmon guy, you don't think it hurts like hell to turn your penis inside out?!
Are you even alive?!! LOL
@ Yaku 15:43
Jesus, Yaku, you need to stop overanalyzing stuff, it was a joke.
ANIME IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!
Being able to magically turn into a woman and back != going through mtf surgery.
Unless you're a tranny that wouldn't be win. He has girls hitting on him all the time. He doesn't need his own girl parts.
But all he does is run from them, and all he really wants to do is wrestle other men specifically (he hates fighting girls).
It's pretty obvious he's as gay as can be. Hell, the only girl he even makes eyes at is as manly as she can get.
wow, this statement is valid for almost every teen shonen hero ever drawn
No, just no.

Lol so true... bleach main girl is rukia tomboy :P
cause only a homosexual would be happy having girl parts, heterosexual men do not want breasts or vag atleast not on their own body
Expect that homosexual men have no attraction to girl parts either. That's why they're homosexual.
