2000-2005 is already 'classic'?
Man do I feel old...
i feel you man... I really do feel you
shit,,, i'm ... old...
haven't been acceptably allowed to have sex with children for 11 years now. sigh... could of made one of my own.
Look at the bright side - you are closer to becoming a full fledged Wizard now!
LOL I GET IT GG
Fire ball!!! ........fuck
I know this is a reference to Otaku, but did harry potter ever plow hermione or that asian broad?
nope, he did ron's sister instead...
Nooooooooooo~!
Funny thing is they didn't mention Naruto(2002) or Bleach(2004), probably it don't include still ongoing series?
Because they are shit.
beacause its a list of good series not stupid series with only fillers
One Piece would have definately made it if it was a 1990-2005 list :D
uses confusion!
*faints*
"Good Series"
"Gundam Seed at first place"
:psyduck:
Or they just disclude endless torrents of crap that they are.
Face it, Scryed -was- good. Definitely not QUALITY animation or anything, but it was overall good. So yes, it still has enough quality to be a defining factor.
We're all going to disagree at any rate, so why bother with these arbitrary lists?
Yet Scryed made the Top 3, disqualifying all possibility of quality being a defining factor for what makes the list.
Because Full Metal Alchemist (FMA:Brotherhood for the anime) is better than them both.
I feel the same way, how the hell is 2000-2005 "classic" ?
Because the likes of genshiken and FMA and FMP are instant classics.
that is a silly comment, withe the life expectancy so high, almost 100 years now, and the earth spinning faster, even if people will deny this, talking about early 100 is more like talking about 5 years ago rather than talking 1O.
things move so fast that that it would be silly feeing old after such a short period of time.
I just logged in to say exactly the same thing ;_;
i know that feel
Watched these shows during highschool. On my way to 3rd year in University. Damn I also feel old :( These animes are still fresh in my mind....
to be fair, "late-night" anime (which accounts for most of the ones popular amongst otaku) only really took off in the mid-90s, as I understand it. So yeah, 2000 is relatively early on in its history.
So what about us guys who grew up on Speed Racer (the real one) and Star Blazers (Space Cruiser Yamato)?! ie: 1960s & 1975.
I agree.
My first taste of anime was in the 1970's...
Speed Racer, Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato, and Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman AKA G-Force)
Those are my top 3 classic animes.
Ha!. I watched all those as a kid. Non-anime shows included Ultra-Man , Johnny Sokko and his flying robot, and Space Giants.
They call you guys 'pedophiles'.
Haha!
I'm with you guys. I grew up with 70s/80s anime and am horribly disappointed at how 21st century anime could possibly be considered "classic".
I grew up in the 90s anime and the classic anime now that is one of the legend is Doreamon. It happens to be my first anime and manga. At that time almost every week watch the dub anime until AXN start showing anime to us in South East Asia.
Don't feel too bad. People will wonder what the hell I'm talking about, but time is actually speeding up. People can kind of recognize it if they're old enough and feel into what it was like back then. You can probably remember times back in the 80s and 90s where years may have seemed like they dragged on more than now, and when I look back I just thought it was because I was in school, but no. The perception of time on the planet really has shifted to match the speed at which we live in the information age. The perception of 'classic' seems to have sort of compressed to match that shift, so it's not just that we're getting older. Problem is it kinda makes the word feel less meaningful.
2000-2005 "classics"?
Even if "I" am old, that does not excuse the young for thinking that stuff from only roughly 7 years ago is a "classic".
If I told someone that the "matrix is a classic!" they'd slap my shit and hand me a copy of casablanca.
Which one: 1983, 1961, 1955 or 1942?
Only because animation is still fairly new and niche as a medium. It would be interesting to know if in the future anybody considers any of it to be of any artistic or historical importance at all. If only we could get them to stop trying to censor everything completely into a world without expression.
Genshiken FTW.
This is the truth.
Elfen Lied is good!! =)
Good? I losed my legs and arms because of it. ^^
And your grammar too, from the looks of it. ^^
"And your grammar too, BY the looks of it. ^^"
you're a GrammarNazy because of it. ^^
You wacky nazi! Get off Sankaku!
No Mai-hime!
That series was fantastic! D:
Agreed...
Also rewatched it a couple of months ago, and the lack of Mai-HiME in this top is disturbing.
Just finished rewatching it a week ago, still a top favorite.
S-cry-ed 100% belongs up there if not no.1. A true gem of a show.
Couldn't agree more, lad. Scryed totally rocks. Glad there's someone understand =3
Scryed made me realise that i lacked speed in my life ...
It was different and pretty good.
Explain scryed to me. I tried to watch it early in my anime career when I still had quite a tolerance for bad anime, but I stopped because I didn't like it. What makes it so great?

Thank you, now I know I can skip it.
dat dub
It really is a shitty show. I'm surprised as many people liked it. The best thing I can say about it is that as far as cliche shonen anime with no particular strengths go, it's one of the better ones.
Don't skip it if you like action, drama, and some good comedy. However stay the Fuck away from Dubs.

same with VA
Now now Aneko ... don't judge the whole series just by that crazy character alone.
I liked it when I was a kid because the main characters where very shonen like. You know, that kind of rivalry that is everywhere like Ryu vs Ken, Goku vs Vegeta, Red vs Blue but the anime itself was shit. And when I say shit I mean really shit.
I didnt like the second half lol. It should have just stayed on his death and let him win.
There was a really good fan made ending on Youtube BTW. Its where Kira gets old and asks Ryuk to kill him, and they go to the shinigami realm.
A much better more modern example and in my opinion one of the best out there is Death Note. I suggest people watch the second OVA instead of the second half of the anime, but that's me. At least the second half didn't drag out as long in the anime as it did in the manga.
Better yet Why did S-cry-ed Lose to Gundam Seed!?!?!? When did this happen!?
probably because Gundam Seed is teh show that replaced S-cry-ed after it ended...
Scryed is coming out in blu-ray very soon!
drastic my soul!
Is already out:

Wow, a list that doesn't fail for once. Not sure about Hare+Guu being up there, Mononoke was way better. I'll give the list a B+ though, overall. On that note, I think I'll watch some Fullmetal Panic.
Where's Samurai Champloo? Honey CLover? and Death Note? FFFFFFF
I dunno, I felt like I had wasted my time at the end. Nothing really changed.
I guess I need to rewatch Scryed, because I honestly did not remember anything particularly monumental in it back in the day. I enjoyed it for what it was, but perhaps I was saturated with the transformation power stuff when I actually did watch it and wanted it to go somewhere else. I saw it on Cartoon Network, and it struck me as lacking a bit of depth. So I'm curious what people found in it that put it this high in their list.
I personally would put Eureka Seven and possibly Full Metal Panic above it simply because of the feeling they elicited in making me care about what happened next, while I have distinct memories with Scryed being left expecting something more to come that never did. I think GITS may even be number one for me, but FMA is definitely deserved. Guess I'll have to finally watch Gundam Seed.
But I do thank Scryed for giving us the line "My balls aren't there!!"
