The mid-season ranking of the fall 2011 season may well be the most utterly devoid of surprises yet, with otaku expectations seemingly well served.

How the hell is Shakugan no Shana Final not even on the list!!! I am disappointed.

i think its attributed to the storyline. Albit stale, shoulda ended at like S2 if anything.
Shakugan no Shana Final is so bad even Rie Kugimiya can save it.
The funny thing is, I wanted to rewatch the previous series so that I could have some fun, but got stuck in the middle of the second season. I apparently forgot that I watched this show out of lack of anything decent. It's so two dimensional that my wall has been put to shame.
Well, I'm following it... ep1s3 was within my expectations, ep 2 and 3 were pure bad however. I don't really wanna drop it as I want to finally see how it ends, but :/
Wow, I like how everyone here is just bashing Shana. You guys need to understand that the series has not been out for 3 years, so of course they are gonna take it slow and do a little recaping. Give it a chance for once and just to let everyone know episode 4 is where all the main action and story starts so if you drop it now your loss I guess. This is one of my all time favorite series and as a TRUE fan I will continue the series no matter what. For more season 3 has been awesome so far so I don't see what everyones' problem is, but whatever.
I can summarise the entire episode 1 in 2 words.
Yuuji disappeared.
They don't need to spend 20min drilling that into my head. This is even more draggy than naruto/bleach fillers.

It does happen sometimes. I just hope this doesn't go into such extremes it was with Clannad S2.
isn't season 4 of Zero No Tsukaima supposed to come out this fall?
it was only recently announced there would be one...i would say wait till the spring or possibly summer line up

I'm not surprised Persona 4 is No. 9. While it is my favorite the pacing of the story and the transitions of the scenes could do with a little work. Otherwise it's kicks ass.
I know, If I didn't play the game, I probably would have stopped watching it. Theirs too much stuff happening in one episode.
Same here, I'm a hardcore player of the game, but some episodes feel a bit rushed, whic is the norm for a game adaptation that can take anywhere from 40-70 hours depending on how you play it.
Take out all the level griding and there's still a LOT of story to put into just 26 episodes.
Pacing could've been better but as a fan it's hard for me to point out faults other than the really glaring ones.
Also Chie, any episode without her in it automatically sux :P
True, a lot of the scenes do seem rushed, but since large parts of the game are made up of the player interacting with NPCs and building up social links, it probably wouldn't have been very good in an anime adaptation.
But I'm very pleased with it so far, but then again I'm easy to please. :B
Rpg-to-anime adaptations often suffer from this.
Whether Xenosaga, Star Ocean 2, Zone of Enders or Persona 4, I FUCKIN' LOVED the games but when put into anime, it's never satisfying the see the adaption.
Don't forget F/SN and Tsukihime and how those turned out. :/
Yeah persona 4 anime acutally made me start to think persona 3 and 4 game wasnt as good as a i remember. It just seem akward in anime format... animation quality is good but they try to copy and paste game into anime, and they should base it heavily on the game, but direct it differently due to different format...

Persona 4 certainly has its flaws (and it could never live up to the game in any case), but it's still a lot better than some of the series that ranked above it here, so I'd say #9 is too low.

It pretty much has a 180 degree turn in ep. 3 so yes it does.

You can see that they attempted to mimic Madoka in sudden violence increase after first 2 eps and even trying to imitate Shaft pencil drawn art&shadow play style a bit, however nobody has actually died yet, not even any of the villains.
It's still an actual LQ ecchi harem with pantyshots and everything, just gore and fighting in the middle.
Well i can say that it did come before Madoka even got started in the works and Silver links signature style really has been those pencil drawn cuts since BakaTest.

Well, even if CxCxC was an original work, it's still quite credible that the success of Madoka probably made studios concentrate on stories like that - same as how everyone went for moe anime after Haruhi/Lucky Star/K-On successes.
I think that's why they purposedly tried to accent any similarities - and no, I don't mean only pencil drawings as in how they purposedly (imo) imitated SHAFT - also minor elements, like that cut-open tatami room with cats below, it reminded me a lot of Bakemonogatari in eps 2 and 6.

Fate/Zero anime is good that it exceeded my expectations. Though I'm quite bitter about the novel since it is mostly written by Urobochi Gen.
The fact that it is written by Urobochi Gen should be a good thing... Madoka was decient? and dont get me started on the amazingness that is saya no uta. A combo of gen and fate is =Q in my opinion. Do you not like horror elements or something? but then whyd you enjoy fate in the first place. Maybe you didnt like madoka because of all the popularity it recieved and developed a dislike for the screen writer at the same time without actually reading anything of his own? It does not always have to be the typically type moon writers. Variety is a good thing esspecially when it brings in a talented writer like Gen. I am sure the novels interesting. :D rant end

Mirai Nikki and Fate Zero are so far ahead of everything else it's a bit absurd.
Giving a lot of the shows a few episodes, there's a lot of disappointments for what was hyped to be one of the "best seasons" in quite a while.
