Japanese manga fans are marvelling at both the amount of effort the makers of the movie adaptation of Roman gag manga THERMAE ROMAE have put in, and the sight of a cast of ancient Romans played by Japanese actors…
Online there is a great deal of resistance to the sight of a small cast of Japanese amidst an otherwise distinctly Mediterranean cast, especially when the makers have gone to the trouble of filming it on location amidst the mouldering ruins of Rome’s former glory.
For those wondering, the story explores the obsession of both Roman and Japanese culture with public bathing, with Roman protagonist Lucius managing to enjoy modern Japanese bathing (of the all-too realistic scrawny old men variety rather than the steamy onsen mixed bathing action variety) by way of uncannily fortuitous time slips.

It could be the best story and acting of all time but, all I could ever think about if I watched it is "why are there Japanese people in Rome." Though, I could see some Japanese Otaku sniffing the crouch of some Roman goddess statue.
If this is possible, then why on earth would a LIVE ACTION SENGOKU RANCE not be possible?!

Yea, if it's meant to be a comedy like Kung Pow or that one British movie about an English dude living with his Indian family (God, I wished I remembered the title) , I'm truly fine with that, in fact would really want to watch.

Hollywood however, would NOT have a hard time finding an actor of Japanese (or asian) descent who speaks fluent English.

Ah well, at least Abe has some of that western guy look. Plus it's still a lot times better than that one Korean documentary I watched that day; they re-enacted a case involving an American family and they used an actual western man as the father (which is fine) but somehow messed up the daughter's role with a totally-obvious Korean lady wearing a totally-obvious blond wig.
Would watch this just for Abe Hiroshi.
And this about Japanese being Caucasians, I don't really care about it since it's a gag manga.
