    Yeah definately. Both attractive and not so attractive people wind up doing something to push others away. Doesn't help matters that people tend to romantacise certain traits so much that they can honestly claim to want those traits in another but in reality can't meet up on it. For example plenty of women around here claim to like guys that are "into the outdoors", yet when I would go out to state parks on practically a weekly not one of them would accept the offer to come along. More often than not it was guys that wanted to take a shot at mountain biking a real trail that would actually come along (not my first choice, but well you don't want to be on those trails alone if you get injured).

    This isn't really true; it's just selectively reported by media sites so people get the idea that the men in Japan are becoming more beta than the rest of the world. There's no reason to believe that the percentage of men who are out of the dating market is higher than in, say, the U.S.

    Also realize that when women say things like this they are typically rationalizing. I would be willing to bet her boyfriend is more wealthy / provider than he is sexually desirable, so she's not as attracted to him and strives to avoid sexual encounters. Then she rationalizes this by saying it is his fault; this is standard female behavior.

    Amusingly enough the general education level in the Armed Forces is higher than that of the regular population, least in the US anyway.

    (This due to the Armed Forces offering education benefits, so a lot of folks have college degrees.)
