I do like it, but I'm a bit confused... Is it just an affectionate way of calling her or is there something special about that name?

NOW all you need is the Ace Combat 6 Music. Then the Game is becoming reality.

Super Russian Airplane that outdoes F-22 Raptor Check
    Characters on Aircraft Check
    Real Life Planes Check
    Consequences of War Check
    Music ----

They left out a few guns, I think... Either that or that attack helicopter is actually one of her weapons and she just marked her territory.

...I'd have lost it if I saw her pull that out of her skirt.

It is kind of hard to spot the giant, loud, flying rocket launcher with teeth unless there's an anime girl on it. I almost couldn't see it in the photo because of the camo.

Helicopters rely on maneuverability to avoid enemy fire. If you are being shot by something that can go through the plating, you shouldn't be there.

If I have a 20mm chaingun and several dozen rockets, and you don't, my decorating scheme is my own to determine (yours, too).

On a more serious note, Japan's cobras are unlikely to see use outside a parade, so this is pretty harmless. Until Mayor-san decrees no more anime at parades.

Weapon makers always have strange bedfellows.
The young nation of Israel was using Messerschmidts for its first airforce. Iran flew F-14's against Iraq and the Germans currently use several kinds of Russian made aircraft.

I suppose we aren't in any position to call them out on it. More than a few pieces of USAF equipment have been branded with the Luftwaffes Iron Cross simply because the legend is more powerful than the nationalities involved.
Still, I wonder if the older generation cringes a bit when they see an anime character in place of the Rising Sun...

I think the Flying Tiger's shark mouth has transcended politics and history to be a sign of "I will fuck your shit up."

That said, Germany uses Russian stuff due to the reunification and Israel basically grabbed what it can in the 1948 war. Tales of the Gun's episode on the weapons of Israel had a good 10 minutes or so explaining how they used everything from Mausers to lever-action rifles.

Agreed, considering the Flying Tigers we're one of the most effective US squadrons based in China during WWII... Maybe an affectionate nod to the skill of those US Pilots and their Thunderbolts during the day. Even still, I like this.

Attack helicopter as opposed to utility helicopter or medical evacuation helicopter?

It's a helicopter. It's role in a battle is to attack. In a defensive battle, it's to attack armor threats in support of allied armor and infantry.

Because they've already accepted the fact that they have lost and at peace and don't spew bullshit from the past (like obnoxious amerifats) that is now insignificant to our modern lives.

And no, I am no Nazzi nor am I a Japanese rightist weeaboo.

    >Hey look at me, making stuff up on the Internet!
WW2 is in Germany one of the Standardthemen des Geschichtsunterrichts, a collection of topical themes around which history classes are centered. Subtopics commonly discussed are life in a fascistic state, rise of fascism, the Blitz, persecution of Jews and Sinti, &c.
The topic WW2 is actually one of the more popular among students.

Indeed, german schools are taking a lead role in teaching young people about the history and consequences of the second world war. German history classes are probably more undistorted, unpatriotic, unpropagandistic, more detailed and clearing up than american classes will ever be. People who can only think in cliches and who probably know less about second WW than every fifth class stundent in germany should think before posting BS like this.
