It's a helicopter. It's role in a battle is to attack. In a defensive battle, it's to attack armor threats in support of allied armor and infantry.
Agreed, considering the Flying Tigers we're one of the most effective US squadrons based in China during WWII... Maybe an affectionate nod to the skill of those US Pilots and their Thunderbolts during the day. Even still, I like this.

What you have to realize is that it all started with WWII germany, the US stole all their scientis after the war.
