Chinese state TV has been humiliatingly exposed as having played unofficial US anthem “America the Beautiful” during an animation celebrating the non-exploding launch of its Tiangong-1 space lab module.
The video, showing the majestic CG animation CCTV played in celebration of the module’s launch:
The tune features such partiotic lines as “America! America! God shed his grace on thee” and has previously been proposed as a replacement national anthem.
Fortunately for CCTV, the version they played was an instrumental.
Online, those Chinese unlucky enough to recognise the song report feeling utterly humiliated:
“At the time, I was eating in a hotel with foreigners from an American company and Chinese clients and we were watching the live broadcast.
All the Chinese there wanted to disappear.”
CCTV has been silent as to how this happened, although as they have previously been caught passing off a clip of Top Gun as footage of their military’s latest fighter jet (many of which are themselves of dubious provenance) the incident is unfortunately not an isolated one.
I just realized something, In china everything that is not supposed to explode will explode and things that should explode or has a high chance of exploding won’t explode at all. I should get a nobel prize for this.

Nobody questions why didn’t CCTV play actual camera footage?
This a two-fold win if you think about it. Not only the HILARIOUS use of America the Beautiful, but the CG animation as well.
Likely because the state government banned them from filming it in case of disaster. The Soviets have barely any recorded film of their hundreds of space launches for this very reason, because the government was so paranoid about being humiliated by leaked footage of crashes and failures. So everyone takes it as a matter of course that the Chinese use CG instead of like NASA, live TV networks coverage. It shows just how cowardly the Chinese are.
In case you didnt noticed, idiot: China just sent the first module for the space station up there.
The CG portraits the entire docking maneuvre for the space station in 2020 when all modules are up in orbit. Of course they cannot show something they dont have at the moment.
