Only a left-wing American or a Belgian would advise anyone to be more open to the EU. It really is a horrific organisation, and it makes American politics look open, transparent and democratic by comparison.

Why do so many brits seems so apathetic twoard their country? As far as I'm concerned, you are living in a developed country that is not America, which is a step up in my mind.
I may have little love for my country as a whole, but I love my home of NYC. Yes, I have a huge provincial bias and I'm proud of it. The city has a certain beauty to it that I love (though I hate Times Square, it can drown in a pit), and most importantly to me is that there is a wide veriaty of restaurants of all kinds, even for a cash poor foodie such as myself.
Also I have never been a fan of the countryside. It's nice in pictures, but the country has bugs. Biting bugs which annoy the fuck out of me, so it kinda takes the enjoyment out of it for me. Also I dislike the huge ammount of car dependancy that is required to travel in the countryside.
Regardless, even if I dislike my country, I have parts of it I like (read NYC). So I have 2 questions for any Brits who happen to come across this:
Why is there such a great level of apathy?
Is there any part of the country you enjoy?

There's a problem with Britain. It's full of British people, and British people have all the negative qualities of the Americans but none of the confidence, optimism or dynamism.
They seem to take great pleasure in complaining about how shitty things are, but never do anything to improve the situation. What I'm doing now is a good example.
I could rant for days... With the exception of Dr Who and Top Gear, the TV is shit, the weather is shit, and our Government seems to have decided to encourage all anglo-saxon english to be lazy benefit abusers and ship in foreigners to do their jobs leaving those english that actually are working to be bitter about our need to work when fucktard and his dumb soon-to-be-ex-wife get given a house for their 3 kids. Now even the immigrants get given houses and its the working class that are paying for all of it. Oh and there's too many happy hour binge drinkers giving our country a bad rep all over the planet.
England does have some nice countryside but then it costs more to travel and stay there than it does to go to another country so you might as well go enjoy somewhere else and good weather. Still at least I'm not Welsh haha
