Chinese Internet users are furious at pictures showing the palatial luxury of the Harbin Pharmaceutical Group’s main offices.
Note the grand piano…
Communism at its finest – the Harbin Pharmaceutical Group is state-run (and by some estimates the second largest drug company in China), and only this month was forced into issuing a recall of one of its mineral water products after dangerous levels of potentially carcinogenic bromate contamination was detected.

I was searching the pictures for hacking terminals.
Time to go get some arm blades then.
'twas my first thought
Quite scary, actually.
You've seen the future, now go out there and stop it before it's too late.
My eyes! It's so shiny!!!
dont worry
i think they have medicines for that
The Chinese have to complain on the interneet because if they complain in public, they'll get arrested.
Yeah...those have been recalled, there have been reports of people's eyes exploding.
China is sounding more Capitalism than Communism.
Capitalist go around flaunting their money.
Communism doesn't work at all. You have to have 1 Billion people helping each other and doing things which are greater good for the country and people. Capitalism isn't.
China is Capitalism.
One word: tacky
Duh... The rich can wear do anything tacky and lame and it won't me shit cause they have all the $$$.
If I had my way I'd have the ugliest most expensive pink diamond stud shirt, and strut around town like a flashy cripple kid.
Capitalism works : )
Opulence, I has it
/Also, I has a miniature giraffe
I remember that commercial!
Capitalism, Ho!
Rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.
Fuck you rich bastards *shakes fist angrily*. People who believe money isn't important in life need to try living without paying for tax, food, clothes, insurance, bills and rent. See how far you get. You can pretty much get away with murder if you had lots of money...or close enough to.
Pure capitaljism.
Except its not capitalism, thats the true face of communism. Communism gives all the money to a tiny privileged minority while intentionally ensuring that the majority remain permanently impoverished. You would have found the exact same BS in Russia before their economy started collapsing.
Lol, but they didn't really earn the money. It's state-run.
Communism in practice has always been a bit different to communism in theory. And by "a bit" I mean "completely".
That's working communism. The ideal communism would do away with the central committee eventually.
@Gitami
You're thinking socialism which is nigh-impossible to actually put into practice in the real world.
There's probably a "premium medicine tax" to each drug that was sold.
OK, I guess you'd rather starve along with the rich under communism then.
Makes little difference. When you're starving, you're starving. Doesn't matter what social economic standards you're living in. You think the homeless are really that bothered about whether or not they're in a communist or capitalist state? Seriously this is the type of arguement a far right republican/conservative comes up with.
Seriously, people who think Capitalism is without fault or is the greatest thing next to sliced bread needs to stop covering their eyes and ears while going "La la la~ Can't hear you."
Socialism for the rich, free market for the poor.
Red capitalism, that's what we call them. Pure communist is no longer the fashion, you know. Just look at North Korea.
I never thought I'd see a recettear reference on sankaku, I just finished playing the damn game a few days ago
really? a state owned corporation in communist china and you blame capitalism?
China is, by far, the largest capitalist economy in the world - far surpassing the US. Of course, you'll never hear THAT from CNN/Fox pundits
It's hilarious that people still talk about capitalism like it's a good thing and not an atrocity. There are no successful modern capitalist economies, and there is very good reason for that.
Capitalism isn't free because capital is a resource and thus an advantage. It creates a spiral of financial bullying and inevitably ends up in market failure over and over again precluding the tyranny of small decisions.
China is a mixed economy. The US is a mixed economy. Neither are capitalist or socialist, and both are very much corrupt. Don't think the US is as corrupt as China? You need to brush up on the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling.
Campaign contributions are de facto bribes. The only difference is it allows you to actually make the laws instead of merely bending it.
Why do you think there are so many convenient loopholes in the first place?
Overwhelming majority of Chinese, up to the upper middle class, pay no income/payroll taxes at all their entire lives. Here in America, it's megacorps like GE that paid $0 in taxes last year. The tax code is the most glaring result of bribing over the years.
The illusion of rule of law and free market is just that, an illusion. By no means am I saying Chinese have much freedom, only that you're not as free as you think you are.
It's known as state capitalism. Not much different from regular capitalism, from most salient respects. "Rule of law" and "free markets" cover the outdated high school definition of capitalism as was then put forward since the time of Adam Smith. It has always just been about profit, regardless of which entity is in control of business and production.
"Rule of law" and "free markets" cover the generous and idealistic high school definition of capitalism. In practice, it's mostly state capitalism (China) or oligopolies (America), with a lot of loopholes, lobbying, corporate-formed government policies and rule-bending.
Rule of law? Free market? Capitalism? That's sarcasm, right? Lulz...
Ever heard of sub-prime? Robo-signing? Sanctioned monopolies? Corporate-Fed rotary door? GE paying $0 in taxes last year? When was the last time Corporate America respected rule of law or the free market?
You must've been living under a rock... or North Korea, to keep believing in that rosy fantasy of a concept for capitalism. It's just like the Communist "workers' paradise" sounds good in theory to tho don't have to live under it.
China is learning, apparently. But they're still green at this. They need to learn to move the ill gotten gains offshore, and hide it well, like they do here.
I'm sure you're more knowledgeable about that than the 2nd largest economy of the world. Of course they achieved all that by lying, corner cutting, and cheating according to you, and everything made there is crap. Might as well throw away your computers and servers right now, as well as ~75% of the stuff in your house, 90% of the electronics, and 100% of your non-bootlegged figures, because they might blow up any second right???... oh wait.
china has free trade zones because of Deng Xiaoping... Its basically just a dictatorship with capitalism throughout. Its communist officially but thats only so it can continue as a dictatorship, in reality its just as far from a communist country as the US.
Capitalism implies rule of law and free markets, neither of which China has.
There is simply no comparison between the legal, political and economic environments in China and the USA. The vast majority of US citizens and corporations will go their entire lives without ever having to bribe an official or engage in shady patronage - on the other hand, these practices are the fundamental daily lubricant of all economic activity in China.
And "state capitalism" and other dubious attempts by Marxists to distance the end results of socialism from its underlying ideology are clearly not what most people refer to when talking of "capitalism."
Capitalism has nothing to do with "free markets".
Capitalism is only a system where business is owned privately and for profit.
They can say they're communists all they want, but it won't make it true.
China is about as truly communist as a tree is made out of rocks.
It's basically just been capitalist with a totalitarian government ever since Deng Xiaoping came to power after Mao.
Yea and during Mao it was just totalitarian. China's never been communist and neither has North Korea.
I bet half of it not as rich as it looks. Golden paint and lots of gypsum and polyurethane moldings do wonders.
Yeah, it's just a case of terrible interior decoration at its most bloated state.
What is your definition of "as it looks"? If you mean that people think it's wealthy because of the golden colors, then yea, you're right, none of those objects are made of gold.
But even without the golden paint, it still looks ridiculously decadent. What's up with the pool and snooker tables? It is EXACTLY as rich as it looks.
Again, it's not something you can't afford, if you have enough space for it. Now building and land for it's another mater - this is most expensive. Everything else is nothing new, and I really don't understand why people gawk at it.
life is unfair <.<
which is why there is communism :)
China today is no longer communist instead they have become a mix of socialist and fascist.
*points to Black Witch* This is correct.
They are socialist in the sense that the government controls most of the means of productions...at least in theory. Private competitors and entrepreneurs are generally prohibited from entering markets and industries while politically favored individuals and groups get to bask in luxury of state appropriated funds like the nobles of old. Where's our chinese Lelouch anyway?
They're not socialist in the least. I guess you must be an american where socialist and communism = evilz.
That what explains what kind of game of billiards these confused people are playing?
Wonder what kind of ingredient they produce to all the drugs that make them rich, you know because it's China everything is possible for them from melamine to milk protein.
My god, it's Versailles all over again. At least Versailles has a critical governmental role...
yup, since they got the money after all, so get over with it
KILL THEM ALL!
OK ,come on!
