If a single episode can make or break an anime, it is more often than not the ending which does so – thus anime fans have helpfully sought to rank what are in their opinions some of the least convincing finales in anime history.
Whilst the ranking itself contains no spoilers, it seems highly probable the comments might.
1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
2. Angel Beats!
3. Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
4. Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouche
5. Shakugan no Shana II
6. Zero no Tsukaima
7. Black Butler II
8. Dead Man Wonderswan
9. Highschool of the Dead
10. Spiral

I thought Angel Beats and Code Geass both had a good ending....and the second season of Black Butler's ending wasn't that bad at all.
Why would there be a season 2? The story is done.
Agree. They should've left things like they were.
Code Geass's ending was retarded. Actually most of R2 was, but the ending was just stupider than the rest of it.
What!? Code Geass was amazing. Both the first AND second season! No, ESPECIALLY the second season!
T_T Retarded? I was shedding manly tears~ heck it can't be better~ or else it will be just like other cliche series ending
"Dead Man Wonderswan"
lol?
I don't think I need to read the rest of the comments to know that a lot of people are pointing this out.
probably typing error.
Why not include Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann I mean after he(Simon) become a hero, a president , a prisoner and a hero again who save the universe after that he becomes a......Beggar in the End??? What a Bullshit!!!
he didnt become a beggar, he became a wanderer planting flowers for nia's wish....
That, and it was his wish to open a path for others to go through.
This list makes me wonder about code geass though. Was a darn good ending.
Ending like that reduce this anime from great to just average. They should watch and learn from dragon ball. Don't kill character for convenient.
Code Geass' ending was great. Though in my opinion lelouch should not have died.
i still think he didnt die, since he took C.C.'s geass right before he died. fooling everyone of his death and preserving his promise with C.C. at the same time.
But the ending really did make me sad =(
Tenga Toppa's ending was so moving I shed manly tears for several days. To see old Simon reflect on a life of pure epicness while gazing at a world that no longer needed him and could never, ever understand how he and his companions struggled to create this future. To think of the loss, putting eveything on the line over and over and over again and then finally, finally being able to pass the torch to a new generation and fade into myth like his friends..
can't type....eyes...filling with tears again...
"Lords of the rings" isn't better : human becomes king, while elf and dwarf are promoted gardener and mason
I laughed too, but maybe is an typing error.
But yes... all these anime has rare endings :S
I think that's the main point of a "WTF" kinda ending this list is trying to tell us without really "telling" us.
The fact we are still talking about them to this day is proof enough that their endings did what they set out to accomplish, they're still on our minds and occasional topics of conversation :D
It works wonders, right?
Those swans are dangerous than their look.
O.O
Deadman Wonderland
and Angel Beats is aweseome can't wait for season 2 bitchezzzzzzzzzzz
Eva has logical ending!
Everyone turns into orange juice.
BEST ENDING EVAR!
I think they meant the series.
Where are Darker than Black and Darker than Black Ryuusei no Gemini?
The list LOST IT.
Well, the odd NGE sequence aside, the ending of Darker Than Black was sensible and satisfying.
And I think the beginning of Ryuusei no Gemini was probably a bigger point of contention, what with managing to throw absolutely all the character and thematic development of the first season out the window, then introducing a boring Mary Sue character to boot.
I would have had "Big O" Up there as well, with all of the other, "Wait, what just happend?.... I'm going to have to watch it again are't I?" endings.
I hadn't thought about it, but you're right. The ending of Big O was pretty bad. All that build up just to find out that nothing is real.
Adult Swim is to blame for that. They had it all planned for a third season but AS pulled the plug on it all.
So I wouldn't entirely blame Big O itself for the confusing ending. It was just setting up all the major elements.
Where is Soul Eater?
That was the dumbest way to beat an final evil boss thing ever.
I hope Bones is just being smart and saving up the other 60+ episodes when there's enough manga material.
This list is a bit strange to me other than Evangelion, because they didn't actually 'end' the story at all. Only Evangelion sounds to me like an anime that was way too ambitious to know how to properly end it. Everything else just went on a weird hiatus. Even Darker than Black didn't feel final for some reason.
The problem with the final two episodes of Evangelion was that Gainax ran out of MONEY! If you all vaguely recall the teaser at the end of 23, you get to see Ritsuko face forward in water and Misato sliding down a wall with BLOOD smearing a trail behind her.
+
I think they erased it when all those "redits" occurred and you'll only be able to see them in the Original ADV DvDs~~~
as soon as i saw that i lost all respect for soul eater
Can Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana be on here since its been long anounced that both are getting a final season to wrap things up?
Highschool of the dead I can't call that an ending it's more like this is all we're animating now go read the manga.
HotD pretty much ran out of source material to animate, and rather than do some filler episodes which might conflict with the ongoing plotline, they pretty much decided to have it halt at the Mall.
Which would be the next story-arc if you want to call it that, considering it has some pretty decent character impact on the group.
Main prob is, the mangaka behind it, is pretty slow with his work, so it's going to be a while, before there's enough for a second season, essentially.
why is there unfinished anime on this list?
There is a difference between ending with a good transition for a sequel and ending with something unrelated or imaginable.
I thought the ending to Highschool of the Dead was blowing my load on a piece of tissue.
At least that's always when I'd stop watching.
Angel Beats had IMO a great ending.
try uncreative cheesy cliche.
The only believable pairing is Hinata and Yui, Yuzuru(otonashi) and Kanade(angel) was just bulkshit.
XD Otonashi's a lolicon, definitely~
I don't see what's wrong with Angel Beats! ending...
Otonashi: Let's all disappear!
....
Otonashi: Kanade please don't disappear!
Otonashi: Nooooooo!
....
Otonashi: Ok, I disappear now.
Let's not get started on the computer stuff that Yuri discovered...
I think everyone is retarded that thinks angel beats was good as a whole..
They could have done SOOO much better to make it didn't feel like the ending shit on you.
Damn Eva and its nonsensical ending. I suppose it's worked out since people are STILL talking about it almost 15 years later, but it still annoys me.
Of the others, while Code Geass's ending seemed like an asspull I didn't hate it. SnS/ZnT's endings are about what you'd expect from two shows covering a much longer series of novels and having to come up with an ending that kinda resolves things but also leaves it open for a sequel (and both are getting new seasons now).
Of all of these, Denpa Onna's ending left the worst taste in my mouth. It had some interesting characters and just some hints of some alien stuff being real, but the ending wasn't at all satisfying. It's to the point where I was thinking of buying it on Blu Ray, but now I'm probably not going to since the ending really dictates how you felt about the whole series.
Denpa Onna's not done. There is another episode that wasn't aired because of the earthquake.
That does explain a lot. Its presence on this list indicates that's not an excuse though--after all, if it was going to air it that week anyway they could have aired it online.
